Gary Mackay-Steven

From the clips on YouTube he looks very good, extremely skilful player, very quick and good on the ball, decent cross, can finish and has a very strong weakfoot, I'd take him, although YouTube highlights are good at making shite players look good as we know...

I think given we are a newly promoted team who is very active in the transfer window already and CW has highlighted the positions he wants it's very easy and lazy to be link us with players that could happen without any real evidence

Expect this a lot over the summer

He is a one man highlights reel and on his day is unplayable.

However.... thats one game in 5. I wouldn't be upset if he arrived, but I see him more as an impact sun than a regular starter.

Left footed, inconsistent, I'm not too keen. Would've been great if we got him when we wanted him, in L1.

I want a right footed winger. I think we've got enough guile already, assuming Holmes or someone similar signs. I still think we need options who can really stretch teams with their pace and offer natural width. I think Mendez-Laing would be ideal - not sure if I've posted that yet.

He would run through the opposition like a high speed tank

I would jump at the chance to sign this lad. We have a solid team that could benefit from a couple of flair players that add something extra. Good age and has probably played in Europe so good pedigree. Get him signed.

Mendez-Lang really?

Does Chris Wilder share you desire for a right footed winger?

Not fussed about him. Seen him a few times and never really stood out or did anything of note.

On loan with a view to a permanent would seem a good deal for us but if he comes on loan and does well only to then just go back to Celtic and play for them, I 'd rather us sign someone that we can have permanently or a very promising youngster from a Prem side who you accept isn't going to sign permanently but offers great quality, like Tammy Abraham did.

Yep, I think so. Very quick, direct, right footed, free transfer/permanent signing. Was on fire most of last season.

Got to say I'd find it strange if Mackay-Steven on loan is our preferred winger signing. He's another left footer like Thomas and I think we could sign better players on a permanent deal, and more suitable players for the right side - ideally right footed and quick. GMS is left footed and more about skill than pace - I think we'll have more than enough skill when we sign Holmes and whoever else.

It seems he's gone off the boil for whatever reason at Celtic, possibly the change of managers from when he first signed. He seems to play on either wing and does remind of Murph to be honest. I like the Mendez - Laing shout but Mackay-Steven has a better pedigree and could play in the hole too.

Half that article is a copy from an old one and the rest just guess work.

I thought the exact same with the bit about Wilder not wanting to be forced to play loan players. Complete half job that would make even The Star blush!

Enough articles are mentioning loan to purchase other than this one though so it seems to me that it has some traction in that bit. If it's true then it changes the signing for me completely.

He's not good enough IMO. Never really found the form he had at Dundee Utd. He can't get close to the Celtic side - if we were L1 then be worth a loan.

But he'll have my full backing if he comes and CW can work his magic on him then maybe he'll rediscover his form.

Wouldn't fancy him to be the most consistent over 90 minutes, but someone who's as good on the ball as him will always be a threat when used well by a manager.

I can see him as a potential impact sub. No defender will fancy GMS running at them for the last 20 minutes of a game.

I must admit Mendez-Laing for example, seemed a quicker and cheaper alternative. But to be fair to Mackay-Steven there has been a change of manager from when he signed for Celtic and its always inevitable that some of the inherited players won't fit into the new managers plans or the manager wants to bring in his own players in certain positions, irrespective of who still occupies the shirt. A loan move with a view to a permanent seems a good deal, providing we can agree a fee prior to the loan spell. Arguably Mackay-Steven was higher rated than Murphy was at Motherwell and we certainly got value for money from Murph didn't we?!

I'm thinking we might be considering him as an option for the number 10 position as well as the wing. Maybe Wilder thinks he can convert him and use him in that floating role as he did with Duffy.

That would make the signing more viable than if he was just being signed as a wide option.

Who do we think is better? GMS or Jamie Murphy?

Murphy was in the matchday squad but in and out of the team.

If anything he'll go down the pecking order now, not up.

He was unplayable at times. I think he'd revel in a free role.

By all accounts he liked Sheffield and left with no ill feelings.
