I've just read that his contract expires this summer. Would he not be a good candidate to take over our managerial position, depending on what happens in the Play Offs?

Obviously, if he takes Yeovil up, he will be a Championship manager again, but fail, and it is very difficult to replicate what he did this season again, especially when Yeovil lose players like Madden if they are facing another season in the third tier.

im not convinced by gary johnson. he was great for a short while a bristol city, but i have a lot of city mates who dont want him back. he was average at peterborough and crap at northampton. he's done great this season tho of course, im just not convinced by him, but i agree a lot better than many other names suggested. i think he does better with less expectation on him.

I'm not saying he is the Messiah etc, but Bristol City could well be a full division below Yeovil next season, and his record this season with the Glovers surely warrants consideration?

I watched his Bristol City team a few times (have a mate who supports them). His teams play a similar way to Warnock's I would say. It's all about team spirit and work ethic. Getting the ball forward quickly and getting lots of crosses in. Nothing wrong with it but it only gets you so far in my opinion. Both managers seem to be good at getting the best out of ordinary players and creating a team greater than the sum of it's parts.

In other words Johnson (as shown at Yeovil) is great at our current level. Not so sure about the next.

McCabe doesn't know his arse from his elbow, so who knows.

I'd prefer someone like Johnson who has at least proved he can do it, and several times suggests not a fluke. We won't get a manager who we can't pick apart in some way - but when you are faced with the likes of Southgate with nothing to pick apart (and probably every other realistic candidate), managers like Johnson are really quite appealing.

You're probably right though Bergs - age will rule him out.

A young manager will have new ideas, which sounds desirable, but they would be easily bullied into playing kids over buying talent.

It worries me that our poor performance in the loan market (contrast Watford's loanees ripping Leicester apart the other night) will be used as an excuse to overuse the academy. It worries me that none of the lads coming through are exceptional enough to make the difference.

Whatever we do, McCabe will fuck it up.

It could be one of those young, trendy managers, like they probably have at Google and Apple. They use horrible Americanisms, like calling everybody "guys".

They can stick a Starbucks at the training ground, have dress down Fridays at training and get a bean bag area with some bonsai trees for player contemplation time.

We have done far, far worse already. The mark of a good businessman is to surround yourself with people who know what they are doing. From a football perspective McCabe has failed miserably in this regard.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned on here yet (or discussed at length), but a Coventry fan at work suggested Carl Robinson. I binned it right away as I have a strong disliking of him, and he would probably cost too much/not want to leave Mk Franchise. He's also failed to get MK out of this league with a fairly capable squad.

But he is young, they play good football and tend to keep possession well, and they are known to bang a few goals in.

When I think about the other options available, and provided we stipulated in his contract that he may never sign Alan Smith, I don't think I'd be overly displeased.

Am I thinking sensibly or has this season sent me round the twist?

yep i would consider him, just not sure he has the bottle for a bigger job. depends on the list of other candidates really. plus would we need to pay compensation to yeovil?
