Purely statistical information to digest over the holiday. Maybe of interest for goals-to-games ratios and how inexperienced some of our players are. I've only counted English Football League games and goals for "fair comparisons":

Games / Goals

Sharp 370 / 149
Woolford 347 / 53
Baxter 169 / 40
Hammond 426 / 40
C-Ryce 399 / 34
Collins 350 / 27
Sammon 162 / 18
McNulty 42 / 15
Flynn 132 / 11
Edgar 165 / 8
Basham 174 / 8
McEveley 316 / 8
Higdon 25 / 7
Cuvelier 47 / 7
Brayford 254 / 7
Adams 25 / 6
J.Wallace 71 / 6
Coutts 218 / 6
Calvert-Lewin 18 / 5
Freeman 132 / 5
Diego 20 / 4
Harris 72 / 4
Scougall 49 / 3
Alcock 129 / 0
Reed 28 / 0
Kennedy 21 / 0
K.Wallace 19 / 0

Statistics are facts ( if my adding up is OK) but different leagues, different circumstances of parent club, penalties. etc can affect the numbers. I do sense we'll need goals late in some games in the next few weeks though.

Hope the stats are of interest.

Merry Xmas.

I take it all the Christmas presents are wrapped and put under the tree.;)

Merry Christmas to you and your family.:D

Some people have far too much free time.

6750 posts for you fellow Blade, maybe I've joined your "club".

I'm retired, what's your excuse?;)

No interest then? Go on, in your free time point to any interesting points.

Coutts, MCNulty, Collins, Calvert-Lewin, Diego, Adams, Sammon, Woolford!! Sharp!!!

Nice graph.
How does Alcock play 129 games without scoring a single goal?

those first statistics merely show that while we thought Sammon was shit, he's actually utter bobar

Do not worry you will soon overtake me having been a member for a lot less time.
Merry Christmas.

Well, I.ve notice Higdon in the same number of games has scored more goals than Adams......:)

I find stats like these interesting.

Cuvelier has a surprisingly good strike rate

I think the Higdon totals are wrong. He played 81 games for Crewe (incl subs), 10 goals.

My mistake - tucked way back before his Scottish spells: should read 106 /17 for above table. ( Career 333/104).

For me the "data" in the OP encapsulates a general problem with football statistics: they are generally purely quantitative with little or no notion of quality or context.

A slight improvement might be winning goals, but then I'd imagine the sample size would shrink dramatically and the stat would become (even more) meaningless.

Which player (in world, European, English, or Bladey football) has most decisive (eg the second in a 2-1 win) goals:

as a raw number
as goals per game
as decisive goals per total goals scored

All of which depend on how your team is set up.

I remember one season Spurs set up almost exclusively to get Clive Allen to score, and he got 40(?) goals.

Was he the best striker in the League? Probably not.
