I for one, thought CW's signing of Clarke was dire. A donkey (jack ass), however his last 5 goals have been Ace! No fucking about, no second touches, just quality strikes, Leon has proved he's no Joker when it comes to finishing, pure Full House quality strikes, its been a pleasure to watch. Thanks King Leon and take a bow King Wilder for an Ace signing. UTB.

Another diamond at our club who we've taken to our hearts.

Clarke is the most natural finisher at the club - and that's not meant to be a dig at Billy either, before anyone jumps in.

Clarke has the knack of effortlessly 'stroking' the ball into the corner of the net without taking a second touch - today and away at Chezzie - and he's proved at Port Vale that he can leather it as well when it's needed.

Ever wondered what Wilder saw in the lad? Now you know.

I'm pleased for Leon. He's finishing the season strongly. I genuinely didn't think he had it in him and based on first 8 months of season, this assertion looked correct.

For what it's worth, I did manage to speak directly to Tufty about this, who promised me Leon would finish the season with a flourish. At the time, I had all on managing to not choke on my beer when he said this to me.

Lesson learned :)

He's been excellent since returning to the team - better than I expected to be fair. He is far more mobile than Hanson and much more of a threat. His goal at Vale was stunning and two more good finishes today.

Never really got why people were so down about him. He's proven at this level and you can't have too many goalscorers in a promotion push. He's had a quiet season overall but when other squads are tiring and the results start getting weird, it's the side who can pull out a fresh pair of legs like Clarke that never see the dip in form.

Contrast it to seasons like Wilson's first year where the potential loss of our best player (unjust as it turned out to be) had been dangling over our heads for the whole season and we never brought in a Leon to make sure we were prepared.

Without spending big money, without any real flashy signings, Wilder's made sure this squad has a lot of depth.

Great composure in his finishing. His first was similar to his goal at Chesterfield i thought, left foot cool as you like into the far corner beautiful finish. I'll be honest i'd written him off for this season too but credit to him he's come back strong and showed his quality in the last few games. Could be a valuable member of the squad next season if he can keep up these kind of performances.

Completely agree with this. The best finisher we have at the club. God only knows how many he would have scored has he not been injured.

He was always going to be a very good signing for this division, but many wouldn't and couldn't allow him any chance of poor form/ return from injury/ lack of fitness. Quality player and he's found the consistency of the form he showed against Chesterfield.

Hard and disappointing season for him, especially given that his dad passed away at the start of last year.

Maybe the situation with his Dad weighed a bit more heavily, and this was also a factor early on. Would weigh heavily on anyone would that.

Pleased for him. Well done Leon.

Now don't take this the wrong way, but thank god we didn't have to find out

Don't get me wrong mate, I wouldn't change a thing about this season but there were times when most of us were a little concerned that Billy was the only one regularly scoring. That's not to devalue the contributions by both Done and Hanson in supporting him to do this but a fit Clarke is a far better player than both of them put together (in my opinion). Whether or not the Clarke / Sharp partnership would have worked consistently is debatable but they look good together at the moment.
