Friday pivotal to our future.

So it's come to that has it? We should take comfort from the fact that we are not being battered and overrrun by 3rd division sides?

I'm not by any means saying we should stick with this situation regardless but it is a very strange scenario. Everyone to a man says we were the better team for the most part on Saturday and that's been the case for more than one of our recent demises. Do we need a complete overhaul or a few tweaks and a bit of luck ? Removing Weir could achieve the latter of course but it just seems to me that we're not a million miles away from where we need to be.

Why are we only seemingly capable of playing for 60 mins or until we concede ? Why can't we turn some of these chances into goals ? Who knows but this is very similar to the rut Wilson seemed to get into with the team last season before McCabe lost patience and how many are now saying they'd take him back.

I'm not convinced Weir has the know-how to find the winning formula but neither am I convinced that, say, bringing Nigel Clough in is the answer either.

Im pretty certain what will happen. We will have 65-70% possession without their keeper making one decent save. We will lose 1 or 2 nil. Im sorry to say I almost want a defeat if it means he'll go. Ive seen enough of this one striker and everyone back for a corner despite losing with minutes left utter bullshit.

People keep using the phrase 'turn things around'. Most who are going to the games are saying we're playing OK ( albeit seemingly for 60 minutes until we concede) but that there's not a lot wrong that a couple of wins and a bit of confidence might sort out. I keep saying it but it's not as if we're getting battered and overrun each week.

Was having a chat over lunch with a colleague who's a season ticket holder at Millwall. He said that had Millwall lost at home to Charlton the other week that Lomas would have been sacked - the fans would have wanted it, and it was looking likely. That win has completely changed the situation and all of a sudden they are looking confident, picking up a decent win at the weekend. On reflection, he now feels he was too hasty in calling for Lomas's head after the game that preceded the Charlton game. It might be completely blind optimism on my part but I've a feeling were we to win on Friday there might be a similar effect.

My colours are nailed to the mast, I like Weir, I think he is turning us around, I think we will win on Friday and I think it will be the shot in the arm our season needs. I predict we will finish top 10 with an outside chance of the play offs. I am however aware of the howls of derision this will invite from an increasingly disillusioned fanbase, and I would never seek to deride their view, there is no disguising the poor start to the season and the fact that the stakes are very high.

Whe all is said and done, I think the board will act if we don't win on Friday, regadless of what I or anyone else thinks. All I ask is positive support all throughout the match, if there's any booing to be done save it 'til the final whistle, if you're booing it means we ain't won, and chances are you'll get your wish by Saturday morning.

COYRAWW, and come on Davey boy, prove me right.

Honestly, what has he done to make you think he is turning us around? I was optimisitic on his appointment as I thought it was an experiment worth taking, he had great pedigree in the game and spoke very well. But the end product has been risibly bad. Whilst at first I was impressed with the way Weir spoke, now he seems unable to acknowledge basic truths and comes across as completely losing his grip on the reality of our situation.

He has taken a solid defence and stripped it of its confidence, he has failed to get us scoring, his numerous signings have failed to impress, and the only upshot is that occasionally we pass in pretty triangles in our own half.

This season has so far been the culmination of a half-decade of failure and humiliation. But now we finally have the means to turn it around and give some payback, we are putting up with an 0verly-principled rookie who instead seems to be taking us down further.

I would love to be proved wrong on Friday and in the coming months, but I hope that the board at SUFC are not making their decisions purely on keeping the faith and hoping things will miraculously change. League Two awaits if they are.

Anything other than a win and our Dave ought to be getting his cards.

N'owt but a gut feeling mate, and if we lose on Fri, I think he'll be out on his ear. I think we will win and win well on Friday though, there's summat about BL on a night match and I think we are slowly clicking into place.

Absolutely spot on Olly. There was even optimism after a decent performance against Notts Co. But that looks more and more like a false dawn.
Is Weir turning us around? I can't see much evidence.
- He brought in Adam Owen, but the team just seems weak and capitulates after an hour - what value is he adding?
- He brought in Lee Carsley, but we don't win the ball back high up the pitch as he said we would
- Weir's a vastly experienced international defender, but our previously solid defence now leaks goals
- We've played 9 League games, and scored 5 goals. None of those have been scored by our front 3
- Attacking full-backs are key to the modern game - we have none

I really want him to succeed. But we can't keep drifting along saying "well, we played well for an hour" and losing. We need to start winning, starting on Friday. Otherwise we need someone else in quick so they have time to get us out of this mess.

I keep reading and re-reading posts saying things like "we've got a good squad/one better than last season/a play-off squad" etc etc and it seems like people genuinely believe this is a given.

We haven't. Some of them might be a bit fancier than their predcessors (Brandy/Cresswell) but I see no evidence that any of them have the character and resilliance required when confidence is low to turn things around. It's like 11 Ryan Flynns/Michael Doyles/Knock yourselves out with whoever running around.

We're bottom because whilst some of them have some of the attributes required to be professionals, none of them have them all, which is why they've all hit their glass ceiling in League 1
you love hoof

This lot have shown, by and large, by their previous careers that their can play at at least the top end of the 3rd Division. So, yes, it is disgraceful and indictment of the manager that we are bottom.

You're a big stats man Dazzler so do us a favour, link us to the League 1 table that features Oldham, Walsall, Falkirk and Motherwell slugging it out for the title please.

I want attacking passing football, with chances, pace, width and pressing off the ball. Like Walsall, Yeovil and others with worse players can achieve. Like Chesterfield play in the League below with worse players.

I'm getting shit, slow, boring football which is diabolical to watch. An outstanding defence now looks crap. Players who have performed very well at L1 (Baxter, Brandy, Cuvelier, Collins, Maguire) look unfit, disorganised and devoid of motivation. We have a manager so dogmatic with a system that if the system fails (has been for 6 times 90 minutes), there is an inability or refusal change it.

Blah blah hoof blah blah please not Warnock blah blah transition blah blah shit players. Where's the light at the end of the tunnel? It's a absolute mess at the moment. Weir is King Canut sat on the beach with his 4-5-1.

ok, the team that played at Wolves:

Long: had his first real full season last season played consistently in the 2nd best defence in the third division last season and in a team thatr finished 5th.

McMahon: played in that same defence and prior to that played 119 games in the top 2 tiers
Maguire: Played 2 full seasons in teams that finished 3rd and 5th in the third tier.
Collins: ditto and before that had never played outside the top 2 tiers
Hill: another who was a regular in the team who finished 5th in the third tier last season and before that played about 200 games in the 2nd tier

Hall: I'll give you him. Most of his games were with Southend in the 4th tier
Doyle: another one who played regularly in a team finishing 3rd and 5th in the second tier and before that had spent virtually his whole career in the second tier
Cuvelier: played most of his games at useful third tier side Walsall

Baxter: played most of his football at struggling third tier side Oldham
King: played the vast majority of his career in tghe top two tiers
Brandy: a stand off player for useful third tier side Walsall last season.

So, out of that lot only Baxter and Hall have ever played in struggling third tier sides or below and they appears to be two of our better current players. Are you serious;y suggesting that lot should not be quite comfortably a top half third tier side?

Friday I think will be a turning point one way or another. Another defeat would make it extremely difficult for the board not to act. A win should buy him some more time but he would need to show continued improvement over the next few games. I would hope that the board have already discussed the potential of needing to replace the manager and have a plan in place so they can act swiftly if needed.

I was one of the first to applaud weirs appointment, especially after the nott's county game. But as most on here have said enoughs enough. Why if united are changing things completely(unsuccessfully by the way) must it be weir that gets the remit, after such a shit start he's got to go. Get a new New manager - back to basics, get some points on the board. Stay in this shit league at least for this season, and then push on with a manager with experience of getting teams out of this league. Get in the championship and if the manager is not good enough for that league get rid of him as well. Atkins no longer at Southampton, warnock gone from QPR, martinez left Swansea albeit for better team ( at the time), at least 2 of those played the game the way that we are supposedly trying to play, their boards didn't hesitate to get rid. It's about horses for courses. If weir had hit the ground running playing a good passing game, and in a couple of seasons got the blades promoted, carried on the good work into and got us into the premiership within 5/6 seasons, his stock will have risen, bigger and better teams would no doubt have shown interest, and as sure as eggs are eggs,( never understood that one) he'll tip us bollox and fuck off.
