it appears we have offered new contracts to billy, coutts and Bash, yet no mention of Freeman, is he off? As I am sure he only has one year left?

Well if he is off we could've done with knowing already, because we could have recruited differently in his position.

The contract extension was only for one year, it is not in the clubs interest to run it down and let him go on a free, seems as though Baldock may be first choice?
Interesting that Freeman procrastinated about his initial move here and may subsequently be driven by money?

I wondered this. I think he triggered a one year extension and so has one year left on his deal, but reports in the press didn't specify that we were looking to extend Freeman's contract beyond that point. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong and that we do.

On Thursday 18th May, The Star reported:-

<< Wilder, who recently triggered clauses in the quartet’s existing deals which tied them to United for another 12 months, said: “Regarding Coutts, Billy, Basham, Kieron Freeman, they were the ones with the options. We took those options up and within the next six weeks or so, we’ll be offering them new deals. “It’s a medium term priority because they are with us for next season. But we’ll be offering them two year deals with, in the second, a clause they can activate if they play so many games. Like happened last year. >>

Unless Wilder has changed his mind since then Freeman will be offered a new contract along the others.

Interesting that the other 3 have been offered contracts in line with the above,(in todays Stir),but no mention of Freeman?!

Rather than us cast aspersions over the lad and his morals and demands, could we perhaps consider that the press didn't mention it because it's a non story they have created rather than a fact based interview from a relevant club representative?

Or perhaps that Freeman has already agreed a new deal?

Or maybe...just maybe...Due to his performances last season we have a buyer and he's moving? Hence why we have brought in Baldock.

Whatever the reason why do some always have to assume it's something bad?

It's the Bladesfans' Way.

If as Treeton says, he's mulling over a new deal, let's not worry:

With respect to Sharp, Coutts and (to an extent) Basham, they are all entering the latter stages of their careers: a money move (I would think) isn't on the cards, thus signing a new deal is more of a formality.

Freeman is 25, so arguably entering his peak, with the eye-watering contracts handed out by some clubs in our division and above, it's understandable that he's having to think about what is the best option for him.

I think he would be best suited to stay here, where he is both settled and popular, and I think ultimately, Freeman will think the same.

Think you're being a bit harsh on Coutts & Bash, at 28 they're hitting they're prime.

I wouldn't say 'hitting', I'd say they're both firmly in the middle of their prime. It would seem both are unlikely to make vast improvements, unlike Freeman who perhaps has greater potential.

While I may be being slightly harsh, can you envisage either player making a big money move?

I'm sure you'll agree, that both Coutts and Basham are likely to receive a lot less interest than Freeman.

Yeah I agree with you're main point just think 28 is still relatively young for a footballer.

How / why so ?
How different are Baldock & Brayford ( if playing in the system that allows the RB to 'bomb on' & not fret over much about defending)

Really? So you don't think that Baldock is an alternative to Freeman then? I think that's exactly why we've got Baldock tbh.

Because it's the Sheffield way. Simple as that really. You'll not find a more negative, glass half-empty, set of people anywhere else in the country. It's just the way folk are around here. Not all of them of course - but more so than any other place on earth that I've ever been. I don't know why it's that way, but it is.
