Why does everyone but you call it 352 then?

Who does? I’ve heard it referred to as both, if you think I’m the only one who calls it a 5 you’re very wrong. Just try searching the forum for a start.

Wing backs are defenders and not midfielders. That’s why they’re classed as a 5 and not a 3. I don’t know why that is so hard to grasp?

It might be a minor thing, but a 3-5-2 would be claiming our wide players are wingers, they’re not, they’re wingbacks.

It’s 3-5-2, we’ve never played 5 at the back under Wilder.

Its a strange one cos when you play with wingbacks and 3x cd's it is classed as 352 however wingbacks are indeed classed as defenders. However it is classed as 532 when the wingbacks play as fullbacks, hence not the same emphasis on attack. I played in a few teams where we used wingbacks, as I got older i moved from playing winger to wingback and it is such a demaninding role. Get it wrong and your back 3 are exposed or your attack do not get the service from out wide. Enda and Baldock must be so in shape given how they play the role.

Wing backs are classed as defenders and defenders are the first digit in a ‘formation’ so they’re surely part of that ‘back 5’

There have been comments on this in recent weeks. From the Kop it has perhaps not been that obvious, but from the South Stand today, it was really clear. The player who bombed up and down the pitch in 2016-17 was unrecognisable, and it does appear that something is wrong.

We play 3 5 2 basically but 5 3 2 is also acceptable.
Unfortunately today we played 9 cunts plus Coutts and Dowell.

When we’re defending that is exactly how we line up defensively... do you not watch us?

Going forward then they become a left or right winger.

They’re wing BACKS. A wing back is a defender. Stevens, Freeman and Baldock were all right backs before they came, they are simply playing a more attacking full back role - the wing back role. They are still a back 5.

Have a look at the midfield when we’re defending, they sit deeper than the WING backs...

It’s also worth noting that our Set up doesn’t exactly follow a convention either. There was a heat map from earlier in the season which shows the average positions of our wingbacks, they spend much more time ahead of the midfield.

Oh and I used to play Wing Back for one of the local teams (not Wednesday or United). I played both left wing back and right wing back, I was always a midfielder, I was never a defender.

It's quite obvious that teams who play wing backs like United, Conte's Chelsea or Southgate's England play wingbacks (roles often filled by attacking full backs) play a system that the media, pundits and coaches exclusively refer to as a 3-5-2. United play a system that often sees our wingbacks in the opposition penalty area and as SwissBlade says our centre midfielders are often deeper than our wing backs.

Eric Cartman is either on the wind up or has got it wrong but is continuing to plough on with his argument regardless of the evidence, factual information and rational thoughts to the contrary.
