Tony McMahon is probably a free kick specialist. His two goals on Sat suggest he is so. Vas Borbokis, Alan Woodward, who else has been a free kick specialist?
Michaels Brown and Tonge , and who else?
What was your fave free kick ever by a Blade?
What about Eddie Colquhoun v Wolves c 1974, a stunning crack through the eleven men of Wolves stood on goal line!!

Best? James Beattie against Wendy.

As for the Colquhoun one, the original free kick was blocked by the eleven on the line, Eddie's shot going in during the ensuing scramble.

Hmmm, not sure, but more likely to have been Woody.
Yes, it was an indirect free kick from inside the penalty box. All the Wolves defenders stood on the line. The free kick was rolled to Woody who then blasted it towards the goal (he scored from a similar situation in the 2-1 home win against Forest in Dec 71) and the ball struck a Wolves player on the line, big Eddie controlled the rebound, went past a Wolves player near the penalty spot before firing the ball high into the net. The match was in March 1975. Another highlight of the match was Jim Brown's incredible save against Frank Munro's point blank header.

Keith Edwards did score a few direct from a free kick and I agree that Beattie's v Wendy was one of the best in my list along with Woody, Borbokis, Tonge ,Brown and Ched Evans. Woody sometimes prefers the free kick to be rolled to him (Frank Barlow or TC would roll the free kick to Woody)

It has to be Vas Borbokis for me. He scored 2 against Sunderland in different games. The first was the opening game of the season when he curled it into the bottom of the goal around the wall. That was good but his second against them was even better, play off semi-final first leg at home and straight into the top corner. What a player he was!

Tony Currie hit a great free kick against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw at the lane in Oct 1971.
low and hard past Ray Clemence right side from about 25 yards.

Your memory's dodgy on that first goal. It was a brilliant goal, but it was from open play as Fjortoft played a great through ball to him.

That was from open play as well...

First one not a free kick, he curled a glorious shot in after a one two in open play.

I believe Jim Brown knocked himself out on the post making that save. Also, Wolves had a player sent off which was quite rare back then - you almost had to commit murder on the pitch to get your marching orders.

It was
from 40 yards rather than 25 yards

That was the first goal I ever saw United score, a goal many say is the best one ever seen for the Blades, so actually it's all been downhill ever since. The bloke who sits next to me on the Kop said the only goal it compared to was Jagielka's cracker against Leeds; "Almost from the same spot!" he said.

Yes, Cec Coldwell had to give Brown a lengthy treatment after the Save. Nigel Williams was the player that got sent off late in the game for a bad tackle
