Four incoming in the next 48 hours

what a day its been ! like waiting for buses ... then 3 come along at once ... and we've a month till the end of the window , so I feel the need to recap , before speculating on what's next.
we've acquired a good LWB and 2 young versatile players in Bogle & Ampadu who don't even count to our 25.
we've used 1 of our PL loans so 1 remains , plus foreign loans.

so the players who'll count to the 25 are currently :
GKs - 3
Defence - 8 - Baldock Bash Egan JoC Stevens Lowe RobinsonJ Jags (don't need to count Bogle & Ampadu)
MF - 6 - Lunny Rodwell Berge Norwood Fleck Osborn
ST - 5 -Billy Didsy Moose McB RobinsonC

So that's only 22 , leaving us theoretical scope for 3 more , but I doubt we'll recruit 3 more.

If we swap RobinsonC for Burke , we're still at 22. And I'm not sure where to put Burke - is he being signed as a striker or utility man ?

After Burke arrives , I can't see us needing any more in defence or MF unless someone leaves.

But I can see the need for a further ST or maybe even 2 , if we can get a PL loan.

CW said recently he wanted 2 STs. If he counts Burke as a ST , then there's only one more to come , but I'm hoping for 2.

One to be a permanent for a fee and one to be on loan.

I don't see anything wrong with having 6 or even 7 STs (if the wages budget will allow) because :
Billy is winding his playing career down towards coaching
I sense that Didsy will be troubled by injury this season , he's already got his recurring foot injury
Moose is completely unreliable and I think CW may move him on if he doesn't improve (if can get a fee)
Burke hasn't played as a ST for a long time and has a poor scoring record
McB is the only ST who for me deserves to start every game.

2 additional STs would take us to a registered squad of 24 , unless they are U21s.

I see Villa have bid 20m for Brewster & 16m for Josh King.
Obviously I have no idea if the Club can afford such a fee for a player of similar calibre - if not , we'll probably try for 1 PL loan & 1 foreign loan.

So , a week till the kick-off and month till the end of the window - if Burke comes in as expected , all our business is done except for the ST dept.

Whoops , I forgot to mention Kean Bryan - maybe he should go out again on loan or even permanently in order to get some game time - there seem to be so many ahead of him now.
 
I wouldn't even add Bryan to the 22 squad as I would try and get him out on loan again for half a season (then decide whether he deserves a new contract depending on whether he is finally starting to show that he can hack it at a decent level). Nor would I include Simon Moore who also needs to be shipped out. I'd have Verrips as the number 3 to see what he can do. We always the have the young keepers as insurance as well.

For me, if/when the Oli Burke for Callum Robinson deal goes through, we should bring in another forward to take it to 23 and 6 forwards in total). Then I would see what gives nearer the end of the transfer window as there could be a few clubs starting to panic and wanting to move players out for financial reasons (perhaps Reading might change their attitude re Swift).

It leaves us with a competent robust squad of 23 with wriggle room to bring in 1 or 2 more nearer the end of the window, if the right player or two suddenly become available.
