6 former blades bagging today..
Adams
Calvert-Lewin
Ironside
Clarke
Donaldson
Leonard

Che Adams starting to show the promise he had at Birmingham.

Would not be surprised to see Brewster needing a season to find his feet. But I hope not!

Jake Young scored the winner for Forest Green too, released from our academy this summer.

HOW ABOUT YOU STOP BEING SO FUCKING NEGATIVE ABOUT 8 FORMER BLADES SCORING AND TALK ABOUT HOW 8 CURRENT BLADES ARE GONNA SCORE AGAINST FULHAM TOMORROW IN A 9-0 WIN (brewster 2)

What about former Blades scoring own goals?

Stears got one at the wrong end against Stoke, and the legendary EEL helped the Shrews throw away a winning position at Portman Road.

Ironside was a player I thought had no stand out attribute. He wasn't quick. Wasn't tall. Wasn't stocky. So as a striker, how could he make it?
Neither did I, but when he was in the team he was no worse than the rest of the shite team we’d got at the time. Don’t feel he was given much of an opportunity to show what he was capable of.

Good to see Ironside turn his career around really. Had a few years in the wilderness really before doing well at Kidderminster and then getting the move to Cambridge, where he has obviously excelled.

For all the internationals the academy has produced, it’s also good to see people like Ironside and Tyler Smith making a professional career for themselves. The more pros the academy can point to, the better. They can’t all be at the elite clubs.

He's got limitations, but he's 6'1 and decent at holding the ball up. His goal record at Cambridge is not bad.

He was thrown in too early for us, but even then he had notable attributes. I saw him knock defenders about and show promise as a back-to-goal style of striker. His goal threat was woeful, but he obviously worked hard and turned himself into an excellent lower league player.

It sounds like damning with faint praise, but it’s really not. Any teenage academy player who goes onto make a professional career has an awful lot about them.

Having watched Joe extensively for Kiddy, I'd actually say that's a positive. He can be good and effective in the air, but being 6'1 he doesn't get the attention from CBs that a 6'5+ striker does and that gives him better opportunities in the air. 9 times out of 10 he'd pose a threat with a decent delivery in to the box. He's not quick, but doesn't need to be. With build up the ball often went to him, back to goal, where he could draw a foul or release another player in plenty of space/running beyond him (issue with us was that in order to get crosses we then needed him to receive the ball, release a player and then magically appear in the box to get on the end of a cross!). He's a good all round finisher and confident from the penalty spot too.
He really was the focal point of our team for a number of years and I'd have him back in a heartbeat... despite out relative success now! Often an "out ball" option from defensive positions too. We threw away a 4 goal lead at home to $$$alford City a few years back and arguably that was because we took Joe off, had no out ball, kept giving the ball back to $$$alford and invited on far too much pressure. More to it than that of course but we would have won had he remained on the pitch for the full 90. We couldn't afford another striker of his calibre to rotate with, so he often became tired with a high workload and playing almost every minute of every match. Delighted to see that he's succeeding at Cambridge.

Maybe a bit blunt on my part, typed at speed - and a shorter version of what Ains was getting at - no stand out attributes that make you feel, that'll be his way into the game - strength, pace, presence, playing off the shoulder, tricky feet...

Unless you're saying rudeness was one of his attributes, in which case, I wouldn't know, I don't know Joe personally 😉

Jack Rodwell scored for Western Sydney Wanderers. More shockingly he played the full game!

Ex Blades Bonanza at Pride Park today, with goals from Lyle Taylor and Scott Hogan, plus an assist for Stearman for the Rams' late equalizer. Colin Kazim-Richards also put in an appearance. Ravel Morrison did not.

Morrison got sent off in their last game I think.

Conor Washington bagged for Charlton tonight, reading their forum half of them think he's shit and half think he's top class.

Sound familiar?
