In a new (probably dull) occasional (!) feature (may not appear every week); I will try and round up the happenings around the leagues of various former Blades.
It is rather nattily entitled: Former Blades round up. Innovation at its best.
Some may say they don't play for us anymore so who cares.....they may have a point but some may have some interest!
Feel free to chip in on any I have missed.
Championship
In the Championship former Blades loanee Kyle Bartley made his debut for Birmingham (on loan from Swansea) as they went down to a 1-0 defeat against Watford at home whilst another ex loanee Keith Treacy was an unused sub as Burnley drew 1-1 with Bolton but Sam Vokes did start for Burnley. Jacob Mellis played as Barnsley got a good going over at home to Wigan. John Cofie was an unused sub for the Tykes.
Simon Francis started for Bournemouth as they returned to the second tier with a victory over Charlton. David Cotterill assisted on a goal for Doncaster but they went down 3-1 at home to Blackpool where former Blades loannee Matt Phillips was missing with injury. One time Blades target Mark Duffy made his debut for Rovers after singing from Scunthorpe.
Leeds featured numerous ex Blades as Paddy Kenny made a crucial save at 1-1 as Leeds went onto beat Brighton. Michael Tonge also started and Dominic Poleon came off the bench and was impressive in his brief cameo. Michael Brown is still at Elland Road and was an unused sub.
Ritchie De Laet began at full back as Leicester won at Middlesbrough. Shaun Derry was on the bench for QPR who beat Wednesday. Nick Blackman was missing for Reading as he was suspended for the incident at Scunthorpe nearly a year ago (when he went into the crowd - altercation with a policeman).
Shane Lowry played for Millwall who lost to our conquerors in the playoffs Yeovil whilst at the City Ground Andy Reid started for Forest with Greg Halford and Darius Henderson on the bench. At nearly 42 Ian Bennett is still at Huddersfield backing up Alex Smithies.
League One
Bradford began life after promotion with a draw at Bristol and began with former Blades Mark Yeates and Andrew Davies. They also had Kyel Reid on the bench.
Paul Thirwell was an unused sub for Carlisle who were hammered by Orient. Kyle McFadzean was back at the centre of the Crawley defence as they beat Coventry. Claude Davis saw his Rotherham side bounce back from 2-0 and 301 down to earn a 3-3 draw at Crewe.
Former Blades trainee Chris Robertson made his debut for Port Vale who earned a creditable draw with Brentford at Vale Park.
Cark Ikembe started in goal in preference to Wayne Hennessy for Wolves who drew at Preston. Danny Batth started for Wolves. Preston started former Blades YTS player Kevin Davies after his signing from Bolton.
Evan Horwood made his debut for Tranmere who went down at Walsall where Ben Purkiss was on the bench. David McAllister was on the bench as Shrewsbury held MK Dons. Sam Wedgbury and Connor Brown; two former Academy players faced off in a thriller that saw Oldham win a game of 7 goals against Stevenage.
League Two
James Beattie made a disastrous start to his managerial carer as newcomers Newport put them to the sword. Adam Chapman (once Kyle Walker's centre back partner at Academy level) made his debut for Newport. Beattie's old mate Danny Webber did score a consolation for Accrington though where he made his debut.
It was not much better for Johannes Ertl who was sent off for Portsmouth in their own opening day shocker where Dave Kitson started for Chris Wilder's Oxford. It was a less than happy day for another former Blades manager Kevin Blackwell whose reshaped Bury went down to Chesterfield at Gigg Lane.
Richard Cresswell's knock down gave York a late winner past Matt Duke and Northampton . Jon Joe O'Toole started for Bristol Rovers who went down to defeat at Exeter. Big spending Fleetwood won on opening day and former Blades youth centre back Ryan Cresswell debuted and scored after signing from Southend in the summer. Former Blades left back Stephen Jordan also played for Fleetwood.
Simon Walton was on the bench as Hartlepool got trounced at Rochdale whilst Jordan Chappel was an unused substitute for Torquay who drew with Wimbledon. Likewise for Jake Speight for Mansfield who went down at Scunthorpe.
Scotland
Anthony Stokes scored twice for Celtic against plucky Ross County who had former Blades trialist Steven Saunders on the bench. Barry Robson started for Aberdeen who beat Kilmarnock. Reported Blades target Kris Boyd scored for the visitors.
