Did we play with a diamond in midfield in pre-season at all? Thought it negated Murphy's threat, put Basham somewhere he couldn't do any of his best work and meant we had zero width when attacking (and defending for that matter). Was really surprised we didn't change it at half-time.

Not helped of course by no player putting in any more than a 5/10 performance (and a lot wouldn't get that many).

Was it Basham holding with Baxter and Woolford in front of him and then Murphy in the hole? Adkins used the diamond formation quite a bit at Southampton.

Did you notice who lost their challenges when they scored?

It was evident last season , and evident today , that the players either don't listen or they are not intelligent enough to play to any tactics or formation bollocks. Players with balls win matches.

I thought we kept a good shape defensively vs Hull and was surprised we didn't go with that. Strange to try something completely new when it matters.

Baxter as the holding midfielder does work and he sits the role nicely, but basham in front is just not going to work, stick basham at centre half.

I'd actually rather we play a 3-5-2 If we're going two up front... Though Ive not seen che and sharp together but who out of those two played the last striker? Baffling

The one hope in playing Collins would be that he could sort the defence and deal with the first three balls in for the goals with his head...

Looked like every one of our players were stationary on every goal there. How depressing, as that was the main problem with our defending of set pieces last season too!! So glad I couldn't get time off work to go today after seeing and hearing about game
