It strikes me, with the signing of Higdon, that Clough is having problems with trying to work out a formation. He's desperate to have Davies in the team to supply crosses but he can't play the role Murphy or Flynn play. And neither of them are very good playing as wingers as neither like going to the byline or is much good at crossing.

It just turns into a mess when he then starts moving everyone about.

Jamie Murphy is a shite winger yeah...

Watch from 3 minutes onwards

Just watch all that.

Personally think we need to stop accommodating the formation to fit in Davies.

Now I rate Davies, think he's a model pro, has a great attitude & has the ability to hurt teams with his set piece deliveries but have we really gone from a team last season that broke teams down on the counter with pace, trickery & guile to relying solely on set pieces to provide us goals?!

Last season we played a system that worked with the players at our disposal, no one player should be accommodated to change the whole dynamics of a team - look at Weir relying on McDonald start of last season, once McDonald went Weir was clueless.

If any player should be accommodated to fit them in then it's Baxter because technically he's the best player we've got.

Go back to what worked last season and start getting some points on the board, if we wanna fit Davies in place him on the wing.

.

What? Did you go to many games in the second half of last season. as you are talking nonsense with regards to Murphy in terms of getting to the by line ?

Did I really just read that Murphy and Flynn aren't good wingers?

The world gets weirder every damn day.

If we play Davies on the right side of midfield we will lose the (little) bit of pa ce Flynn provides. However, with Flynn's form at the moment, I think BD should be there anyway.

I think that short term, Baxter will be moved on. NC has now brought in the outfield players so he can play his own team (when fit) i.e
Alcock,McGahey,Harris,Davies,McEverley,Basham,Wallace,JCR,Higdon,McNulty with Scougall and Butler in reserve.Of those, my concern is the lack of pace but ultimately, I think this will end up being the team for a lot of the season with the possible exceptions of Murphy and the kids along with a new RB/centre half(unless Collins steps up) . The old guard, rightly or wrongly, may not be here by the end of the transfer window.

Id be annoyed if we let Baxter, Murphy or Flynn go.

I think Clough may be looking to go 3-5-2. A stopper centre half (Collins for me) flanked by Alcock and the new lad from Swindon. Both have played full back as well so could play it. This allows Baxter and Scougall to both be in the team alongside Basham. Doyle could come in for tougher away games replacing 1 of them. Flynn could take the wing back role on the right. That leaves Davies for the left wing back role, although I do have a doubt whether he would be quick enough for it. Murphy and Higdon up top.

Forgot Harris! Davies to move inside for Scougs on present form.

Woodhouse commented on that formation earlier.

I agree you need the right players to play 3 5 2 though.

Alcock was part of that sort of setup at Peteborough I think?

Neither Murphy, and particularly Flynn are know for being winger who stay out wide, regularly go down the outside and put high crosses in. That's what Clough seems to be after for Higdon
