VAR Forensic

It’s been announced on the radio that FIFA are thinking of changing the offside rule for next season.

The new rule they are considering is that there must be clear day light between the attacker and defender for it to be offside.
So if any part of the body is on side.....then its a goal.

That would mean all 5 offside goals from recent PL matches would all have counted.....the Mouset goal would have counted using VAR.

They’ll still be some controversy regards offsides but at least if a player is level or close to level....then the goal will count.
Sounds better to me.....and there will be more goals scored.

Are you not in danger of teams being more defensive and defending deeper as a result? Free kicks that are crossed into the box will give the attacking team a huge advantage, how will this impact how teams defend them?

By changing to this “Souness Rule” it doesn’t automatically mean we will see more goals. It’s like the extra time golden goal, in theory it should’ve encouraged more attacking play, but as we all know it had the opposite effect. Could this go the same way? It shouldn’t, but until it’s introduced we won’t know.

All this farce should have been looked at prior to VAR being introduced. You don't need to be a genius to know that this was all foreseeable. What do other Leagues which have VAR do? Does anybody know? There are several Leagues who use it and so far as I am aware they don't have these problems. Surely you look at other Leagues who have the experience and use there know how? Apparently Riley and co didn't bother.

I don’t watch Rugby so maybe someone else can help me out but surely they don’t look into this much detail if they are looking at something like a forward pass do they?
They don’t draw silly lines and stuff. The Video ref and onfield discuss while the fans can see it in the big screen. The onfield has the final say and there are a number of times it is clear that the video ref doesn’t agree but backs down.

Pretty much what Souness suggested.

It's great that they're looking to change it for offsides as it's really killing the enjoyment waiting for decisions on goal/no goal.
I don't think the following is being considered but think it explains some of the issue with the new offside "process"...
I wonder if some of the problem is that last season the flag would have gone up on at least half of the tight offside situations resulting in whistle blown and play stopped before a "goal" being registered.
This season the flag stays down and play continues resulting in goals then dissalowed by VAR even if lino originally thought it was a tight offside decision but kept his flag down so VAR can be used to check it.
I think moose v City for example may well have been flagged last year and the "Moose" would likely not have finished it off.
Just my thoughts.
I hate all the waiting though so something needs to change.

If we've learned anything from this season it's that we won't know until it's in force but we should definitely go ahead and make wholesale changes to the rules anyway.

He said the body would reissue guidance on VAR's use after its annual general meeting in February.

"If you spend multiple minutes trying to identify whether it is offside or not, then it's not clear and obvious and the original decision should stand," he said.

Great. That gives ample time for the cunts at the FA to disallow three or four more of our goals and allow Tottenham, Arsenal and any other club they like to get above us. We've to play Man City at BDTBL too soon.
