Just an observation. I can't think that we have any players on our books who aren't from either the U.K. or Ireland.

Am I right? If so, when was the last time this happened?

Lavery is Canadian isn't he?

Canadian born (capped for their U17 side) but now has Northern Irish nationality and has caps for them at U19 and U21 level.

In response to the OP, I seem to recall under Wilson we had a real core not just of British players but a load from the north of England as well. Not sure if we had any foreigners though.

Wasn't Cuvelier the last foreign player we had? JLF before him?

I think we've consistently had one or two foreign players in the squad for the last 4-5 years. On the odd occasion we've had none.

We had Lescinel Jean-Francois. Since then we've had Cuvelier, Edgar and De Girolamo (I know, I know), but I honestly can't remember the last time our team has been completely UK and Ireland, despite always having the majority of players from here.

That's 17years of his 24 in Canada.
That makes him slightly more Irish than Andy Townshend I suppose.

I think you're right. Players of nationality outside of UK & Ireland:

2011-12: Lecs (Haiti), Ertl (Austria), Williamson (Jamaica) [Born in England], Tønne (Norway), Bogdanovic (Malta), Aksalu (Estonia), Parrino (Argentina)
2012-13: Lecs (Haiti), Tønne (Norway), Forte (Barbados) [BiE], de Girolamo (Italy) [BiE]
2013-14: Cuvelier (Belgium), de Girolamo (Italy) [BiE]
2014-15: Cuvelier (Belgium), JCR (Jamaica) [BiE], de Girolamo (Italy) [BiE]
2015-16: Cuvelier (Belgium), Edgar (Canada), de Girolamo (Italy) [BiE]
2016-17: (none)

Only one from outside of the UK too, in Graham Kelly (Ireland)

Forgot all about him, which is a tad frightening as it is not all that long ago!

In my youth we had Sabella, Verde and DeGoey - them was the days!!

Aaaah Bogdanovich...I'd forgotten about that disaster. We had such high hopes as well.

He's probably not from South Africa by the way I just made that up.

Remember jean calve scoring that belter on what I think was first game of the season (maybe wrong) though we had another Borbokis on our hands...

Still don't understand what we did right in the 90s with the Greeks etc and how that has gone despite it being easier to find players now

On a side note, .........isn't it about 56 games since the last English player scored for Stoke City in the Premier.

It was 3 or 4 games in to the season and against Portsmouth. We had been poor all match, and he had been very poor, then all of a sudden he picked the ball up 35 yards out, and took a pot shot for no apparent reason and it when whistling straight in to the top corner. Then Calve went back to being absolute shite for the rest of his thankfully short lane career. He would have been totally forgotten about if it hadn't been for his world class goal.

With the 90s i suspect that we got the Greeks thanks to the scouting network set up by Howard Kendall, he managed out there a year before he came to us, and must have had some contacts out there.

.

It was Preston, not Portsmouth
