So it looks that we will have a number of players from abroad, playing in English football and living here for the first time. I hope the club is putting the personnel in place to support these players as that will be important on getting the best out of them.

I feel this is a big reason why signings can flop.

People forget they are human, often young and livign miles from friends and family. Maybe don’t speak the language

This is the same for huge clubs and huge transfer fees - seems mad you’d invest massive amounts in a player then just leave him to it once they are here. Bit of additional help and support even down to an interpreter could help ease the transition and increase the chances of them doing well.

Luckily we have a daily good group, who you’d hope will help make them feel welcome.

John Garrett will sort it

They will receive support by being awkwardly asked about the weather during their signing interview. All the support they need that.

It’s ok, we’re probably paying someone just above national minimum wage to look after multi million pound assets who we need to hit the floor running. At least we’ll be able to post content about them with all the social and digital roles we’re advertising.

They recruited personnel to do this role previously.

It's a fundamental part of recruitment and one that we prepared for upon entering the PL last time.

It's easy to forget just how many things there are to take care of, not just housing and transport etc but other more important boxes have to be ticked too, NI numbers and that sort of thing.

Let's give the club a bit more credit, there's never ever been an issue in this area and it's not helpful to equate the bollocks with kit supply to something so crucial.

At any level a foreign player coming into the Premier League, often takes a year to adapt. That is just on field. So its a good post, because it will be a tough season, whether we stay up to not and all the work to support the new players will be valuable.

Don't forget asking them to say some Sheffield phrases like "Ay up mate", "alreight duck" and "not so bad" and finding it hilarious.
Oh, and asking them to pronounce their own name and then deciding we'll just call them by their first name because it's too hard to say (lolz).

No they didn't, that's clearly a lie. The club would never have done something so useful and pro-active...

Are we getting some multi million pound players then

I remember back when he signed Berge said it was pronounced "Bare-gay". Radio Sheffield then proceeded to never ever pronounce it that way.

Wasn’t it about £25k for someone who was degree educated and spoke multiple languages as well as being willing to be at the beck and call of footballers 24 hours a day?

I got £25k in my first job out of university nearly 20 years ago, I wouldn’t survive long on that even as a single person nowadays.

The value this country puts on language skills is frankly embarrassing

Sander soon mastered 'Ayup', 'Nah then' and 'Oreyt' with the help of our Billy.

Joking apart though, whilst a liaison is massively important... we so at least have a squad of older, experienced, long term players. I do feel that the presence of Billy away from the pitch will be a huge loss, mainly because he acted as an ambassador for the new lads as well as a captain. As said above, he looked after Berge amongst others....

But as we saw with Doyle and Mcatee last season, players do step up to help them out. McBurnie and others were noted to have looked after the city lads.... and whilst we are talking other nationals, i'm sure the existing lads will lend a hand too....

And we do actually have a few links in the squad as well.... Osula, Anel, Sander cover denmark, sweden and norway..... And Ndiaye, Ammisah and coulibaly have their national links as well.

Fingers crossed it will all blend and will help them settle in quickly
