I don't know about you guys but I know of a couple of well known, lifelong blades who have sadly departed us in the time between last season ending and this season beginning?

Anyway as we go into battle at the start of a new season, I just want to raise a glass in memory of our Blades family and friends who have departed us and won't be joining us on another year of emotional ups and downs.

You are gone but never, ever forgotten! Up The Blades!

First kick off to a new season without my father and it feels very strange - no doubt he will be cheering us on and putting pressure on the football gods. United Forever.

Sorry to hear of your loss mate, I always say that my uncle has a "season ticket in the sky".......I'm almost certain that if there is an afterlife, the uncle will be up there getting peoples backs up, effing and jeffing about how we don't do the simple things well enough :-)

On a related note, I've approached the club with a view to doing something better with the current Blades Memorial Garden at the Lane. I'd like to do some fundraising to get some cash together to do it up and give our departed Blades a memorial they deserve.

Can't say the response from the club has been enthusiastic, but it's something which is stuck in my mind and I'm not gonna let it lie. I'll see how the email correspondence goes over this next week and post a thread on it if necessary.

Echo the sentiments of the OP. Hope they're with us to oversee a victory today.

Funnily enough this has been something that I have enquired about in the past because the are outside the shop just isn't suitable.

I proposed using the area shown below in green, as it would make a nice, quiet walled garden with a bit of privacy for family and friends who want to go and remember loved ones. A good few grounds up and down the country now have similar

If you need any help with this campaign what so ever then get in touch mate, I would love to be part of it.

Aye I've heard I'm not the first to suggest something regarding this. I'll certainly get in touch if something more develops, pal.

Stumbling block for them seems to be the plans to redevelop the Kop and the South Stand... which is clearly imminent, innit.

I'll write something to the club echoing if you need help with it. Where you suggest looks like a good place for it.

Thought the planning that went in was for the corner of the John Street and Shoreham Street?

Looking at those planning drawings, this corner looks to be unchanged?

My old fella passed away 2 years ago now. He's now buried over in Ireland in a family plot. Would have loved to lay a tribute at his beloved BDTBL. But the "memorial garden" is absolute shite. It is a poor half hearted attempt at a lasting tribute to Blades who have passed. I don't get to visit his grave much so a decent memorial site at the ground would been great. Something similar to the one Chessy have.
