I like Staton. As Stretch says, he handles the idiots well, IE, taking the piss out of Ian the Eckington Blade every time he phones in, even more so tonight as he introduced him to the new guy. He might be a Pig but I think the way he speaks to some callers is brilliant. I'd certainly much rather have him than someone from Leicester who knows nothing about any of the local sides. With Buchan going aswell, RS is going to sound pretty shit now with a bunch of new guys who don't know the managers/players/regular callers.

Rob Staton always showed a hint of bias towards the Pigs. But never any bias against us. I could live with that.

Just listening to the new guy now on play back. I need to get out more! Not that keen so far, I like a local accent to be honest, but at least he's not southern! Sorry to any southerners here but can't stand people saying baarth and not bath! My favourites were Paul Walker and Andy Giddings, who is thankfully still here.

Surprised Rob Staton's gone to Radio Humberside! I would have thought that Radio Sheffield is better on your CV than Radio Hull! Maybe he's become the main man there.

Giddings used to be shocking, but he's by far the best recently.

Walker always thought the show was about him. Good commentator though. Reminds me of Micahael Vaughan on TMS. Tries to be the funny man during the game with his wisecracks. His summarising after close if play is excellent though, when he's actually talking about the cricket. The Piggy twat.

The biggest upside to this is that now he’s not covering us, I can sack him off on twitter, therefore sidestepping his NFL drivel.

Good luck to him- best actual commentator RS has. Not exactly a hotbed of sporting activity up there though. I envisage him sat at an empty desk, bored to death, dreading his weekly Nigel Adkins positivity seminar and phone in discussions with lonely fishermen.

In fairness I've heard a number of people comment on how much better RS sport is compared to other regions.

Rob Staton is/was the only current local journo who properly interviews managers, asks the tough questions and makes them squirm. For example, listen to his interview with wilder after Middlesbrough.

If you ever listen to local BBC Radio in other regions, you realise Radio Sheffield is absolutely superb.

Having rarely listened to other stations I'd have to agree but what a poor situation this is, a job working on many people's favourite topic and radio stations up and down the country are employing people just rubbish at it, you only have to look on Youtube to see people doing a simular job off their own backs and making a fist of it.

I can’t say any of the Staton, Buchan, Walker, Giddens, etc are rubbish. They are very good commentators. Walker has gone on to make a very good career in commentary for example.

I just don’t understand the constant vitriol and abuse to RS. They’re decent, provide excellent coverage for exiles, real value for money.

I assume BB is a made man in other areas of life (almost certainly as a musician of sorts) but I watched his Championship preview (Youtube) of the Blades and whilst the guy hosting it was bland and cliched BB is enormously knowledgeable and brought up the 3 most influential United players. Add to that his reading of the game and unbiased reviews, he really would be an asset to any football program.

Seriously impressed with the guy. I know people think it wasn't a serious suggestion, as he's probably got a career / family down in Suffolk. He would be a great addition though

Yeah I commented on his knowledge on the video, he was straight back asking how McG was getting on, as you say absolute class.

Rob Staton proper knows his football. Always great to listen to and absolutely love his banter with the callers (especially Ian the dull eccington blade and Johnathan the posh blade). I'll miss him. Think they need to give Adam Oxley a permanent position on the show.
