Money isn’t everything in life but the majority of us would like the bigger/nicer house in a better area, the bigger/faster car and if you don’t want them things then you’d like more money to travel the world, put money away for your kids etc etc footballers are no different so how much would it take for this group of players to be given an incentive for promotion.
they’ll all have promotion bonuses I’d imagine but if you’re earning £15,000 a week which equates to £750,000 a year how much would make you go out and play out of your skin to gain a bonus? Fleck/Norwood/baldock/stevens etc etc loads of players over the last few years have gone from extremely comfortable to certainly sorting their families out for 3/4 generations if they’ve been level headed financially.
Basically all I’m asking is has their hunger for the game gone?

I don’t think so in the majority of cases, they want to play football and be competitive and hopefully successful
With out a doubt some of theses young men are now becoming extremely wealthy and if sensible are set up for a very comfortable life after football

To loads of them it's just a job. Their heads are so far up their own arses they have no idea about the gulf between themselves and the average punter paying their obscene wages.

Hunger for the game is more than money.
Most of these players will be financially secure and have achieved the pinnacle of their careers by competing in the top half of the Premiership. To recreate that is difficult: they cannot be accused of not trying, but the inner drive to get that bit further has gone.

It's very easy to mistake lack of confidence for lack of effort. It seems clear to me that the confidence of a lot of our players is absolutely shot. The opposite of when we were on the way up, when the players were so confident that they'd try anything.

The Norwood moment at the end of the Blackpool game summed it up for me. We're chasing an equaliser, he's got the ball in their half. He couldn't spot a pass. The crowed started getting restless. He looked the other way and couldn't see a pass there either. The crowd got even more annoyed. He turned to go backwards. The crowd started booking. After looking to the side again, he dinked the ball forward (presumably hoping for Enda to make a run, which didn't happen). The ball trickled through the keeper and the whole crowd went ballistic. What was notable wasn't just that Norwood looked crushed, but that you could see the body language of the rest of players thinking "I'm glad that wasn't me". Fleck for one just seems terrified to get on the ball. It's not lack of effort - it's lack of confidence.

I wouldn't say loads, but there's some definitely.

Did anyone see that interview with Ben White? Says his name is 'Benjamin' and not 'Ben' and "why would I watch football? It's just a job at the end of the day".

Mardy bastard.

I think like most people who work, footballers want reward for their work. This is obvious if you watch any of the 'Undr the Cosh' series. There's a lot of stories based on how much wages they were getting, felt they were entitled to or not happy because a team mate was getting more. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, it's human nature.

I still think most of them play for the love of the game. I remember seeing a documentary about Rooney and in his early career at Everton, the staff had to try and stop him playing footie with his mates on the street.
