Football is now a COMPLETE JOKE !
The Premier league ( which is a joke itself – Fantasy Money & virtually no home grown players )
Is now turning the Championship into their pet poodle.
Premier Clubs stockpile any player that is any good -
Then to placate those players they pick & choose which Championship club to patronise, and use as the nursery team.
Take Cardiff ,
Heaton & Drinkwater from Man U
Koumas from Wigan
Bellamy from Man City
Oolifinjana from Hull ( I know they aren’t prem but they are holding onto a prem player this way )
Naylor from Celtic
Now Keogh from Wolves
This all sounds well for Cardiff, but at a club with 40M of debt , how do they fund this, and if they do get promotion, will Wolves / Man U / Wigan / Man City let them keep those players or will they start minus 5 or 6 of the players that took them up. Which will probably mean they come straight back down.
I think this practice ( though not of the same quality ) destroyed us last year, and we seem to be going down the same route again.
The only clubs it really benefits are the Premier League Clubs, The Championship is an add on Joke League

If this is true, then surely Cardiff should be investigated. How can they possibly sign all these players, and be 40m in the red? Its ridiculous.

Football has been a sick joke for the past few years....and it's getting worse by the day. Too much money and absolutely NO loyalty. It's just a piss take of a job for footballers who really dont give a fig about the tribal loyalty of the fans, the lifeblood of the game.

Basically it's because it really is shit or bust for Cardiff this season. The investors have no hope of getting their money back unless Cardiff are in the premier league. The only way they are going to be in the premier league is if they bankroll it. Speculating to accumulate...

How will the investors get their money back? When clubs go-up, their outgoings just spiral upwards.

Wouldn't they have to sell-up the moment they get promoted? And even then, any prospective buyer would face the same problem and presumably would factor that into their offer. Failing that, they could do a Blackpool, but what they're up to seems unprecedented.

Football only seems to make money for players, agents and parasites*.

*aka Ken Bates.

Maybe Championship clubs in the future won't have a 'squad' per se, but will instead take the majority their players on from Premiership teams on a roster basis (like the NFL draft, but for players that can't get into Prem Squads of 25). Every summer would see teams bidding for these players until everyone has a squad to fulfill the season, supplemented by about 4 or 5 centrally contracted players....

Scary innit ;)

Well that's the thing that investors never seem to understand. I suspect if cardiff do go up then the investors will rip all the money out, and then when they ciome back pare the outgoings down in a bare minimum and cream off the parachute payments.

Absolutely spot on JD.

Football is heading in two directions:

1. Elite, money grabbing, hyped to the hilt followed avidly by the glory hunting wannabe's

2. Down the turd chute - for the rest of us.

If the Football League produces many more matches on TV like Boro vs Blades then I can see there being fewer and fewer lower league games being shown.

The Sun Don't Shine Beneath the Top 6

Top 6? Do you mean top 3 or even 2. Lets be honest only Man U and Chelsea will win the Premier League. Arsenal aint good enough, Spurs aint, Citeh, who knows and Liverpool are a spent force. So even the "Big 4" is dividing into a mini league!

I doubt Cardiff are paying anything towards Bellamy. It makes total sense for Man City to pay his wage to stop him playing for a rival. The rest of the players in the list are hardly Premier League players are they?

I don't fully believe that it makes perfect sense to City, surly loaning him somewhere like Blackpool and not letting him play against them would be more beneficial as he'd be taking points directly off their rivals then

Not that anyone at Cardiff City was complaining. Manchester City, in another astonishing example of their financial largesse, have turned Bellamy's dream into reality by offering to cover the majority of his wages over the course of his season-long loan in south Wales. Exact figures have not been confirmed because of a confidentiality clause in the contract but there were suggestions tonight that City were paying as much as £75,000 of Bellamy's £95,000 weekly pay packet.

I dont know if these figures are correct , but if it is 20k a week is a huge wage for Cardiff,
But my main point is .
Even if he is free to Cardiff, the Premier ship Multi zillionaires are manipulating the Championship, and making a mockery of it

>how do they fund this
because they are backed by the welsh fa.. simples

what the game here needs is for the top four to bugger off into their euro super league so all of the south east asians and part timers and city types can support them and we can get back to our traditional game.. then all we have to do is get rid of the stupid seats and't jobs a gud'un

According to today's Guardian they are going to be investigated over the Bellamy deal, at the instigation of John Ryan who says it will "distort the integrity of the division". The League's Board is meeting on 9th September, and this is anticipated to be on the agenda.

According to Ken he doesn't take a penny out of the club!!!

cardiff took an approximated £150k on top of their expected gate figures this weekend - if they can maintain that, theyll have the money to pay bellamy's shortfall and some of their debts as well. unfortunately we're not in this position whereby a lifelong blade just happens to be available at a price we could afford top speculate on.

Also, Cardiff said they sold 1,000 shirts at the weekend. That should pay this week's wages.

I dont think so Jim .

This trend will affect our club detrimentally, and although it has zoned in on the Cardiff situation, the discussion is really about , how SUFC recruit can & is being negated by the way the Premiership clubs dump players into the league we are playing in.
And within the short space of a week, one club has risen to be a super club, and will dominate this league.

That can & probably will happen to other clubs within our league. Making the outcome of our league a lottery dictated by outsiders.

So I do think this is relevant to what happens at SUFC

If the League really feel there's integrity left - they must have a politician's understanding of "integrity" and have lost touch with how the majority of fans view the game. How can they talk about integrity when the League includes clubs with finances like Portsmouth, Cardiff etc - when agents cream off hundreds of thousands of pounds - when players have more interest in money than in the club, it's fans, the local community and the club's heritage - when chairmen have no links with the local area - and when players are more intent on diving, feigning injury or mobbing the ref?

The game lost what integrity had long ago.

I found it interesting talking to Northwich Victoria's fans at their beer fest. Many of them were ex Man U or Liverpool fans who were pissed off with the financial dealings at Old Trafford or Anfield - and with PL football in general. They felt Conference football was far more enjoyable, immediate and accessable. The Vics were "their" club and they felt connected to it and the players. The chairman was on the friers in the canteen and (largely) respected by the fans for his openness, efforts and honesty - the club had a really close dialogue with the supporters trust - and the players were known personally to many fans. Their fans felt as though they were part of the club and important to it. The football on the park was far more "personal" to them than for those of us who support bigger clubs.

It's easy to see how the game lost it's integrity once it lost it's local accountability - and the League itself was more interested in money than in the game itself. Pity though. :(

Agreed. But have you seen the FA. They're literally the biggest group of no-mark, spineless clowns. Scudamore must be pissing himself about how easy he gets it.
