Given that Sheffield United's policy of 'We can't stand in the way of a player if a 'bigger' club comes knocking in the JTW has been the norm over the years and given that most people will have seen Ryan Flynn's goal v Villa on Saturday how would fans react if say a Championship club came in for Flynn with say a £1million bid ?

Also we seemed quite prepared to release Murphy to Hibernians for £250k last week if press stories are to be believed !

And perhaps some club may think Maguire is worth a punt to get them out of trouble or perhaps boost their promotion push ?.

Given that most of the team have been absolute rubbish this season yet turned out a display on Saturday worthy of a side pushing for promotion out of the division rather than scrapping around one point above the relegation places how do fans now look at the current squad ?

Last season we had no qualms about 'selling' Blackman to a 'bigger 'club ie Reading leaving us bereft of any scorer !

My view before Saturday would have been to get shut of any of the squad they could but they showed that they can play, they can put in the effort, they have some bottle and they are capable of far better things on the field than they have displayed for most of this season !

What do you guys think !

I think youhave put two and two together and found a scary monster In a teacup

If anybody offers £1 million for Flynn, they've probably got him confused with some other bloke called Flynn. Can't possibly be our one.

Couldn't give a gnat's chuff if someone came in for Flynn, to be honest. We all understand there is some sort of ability in him, but one quality strike against PL opposition in the cup doesn't make him Alan Woodward in mine eyes. He has to rectify all the rest of the dogshit, directionless, dismal performances we have endured for the past few seasons before I would view his loss as harmful. See also, in some ways, Maguire's on/off defensive weaknesses. The bloke could be a colossus, he is still young but he shows grave naivety and the once great partnership we saw with Collins at times last season is not working now. And he has to grow up and stop throwing his weight around at the cost of three points. He does it a bit too regular for my liking - the Walsall penalty as 'unappealled' as it was, he did have his hands on their forward, and they will make every opportunity count to go over in the box. More clever defenders hustle and bustle, pull shirts, use elbows, get a tackle in and generally make opposition forwards work hard without making it easy for the ref to give a penalty.

The rest of the players - not bothered. The last player I cared if we sold was McDonald. Given he'd played well in front of the cameras in the opening game and started the move he eventually ended with a goal, it failed to surprise me that the club would snatch the hand off any offer, however damaging it would be. Currie, Edwards, Deane, Jagielka, Brown, Bent, Blackman, Kyles, Kilgallon are players just off the top of me head we have flogged for fuck-all in the past which has cost us dearly.

Glad hes showing promise now, but there is no way we would turn down 1 million for him, nor should we.

... promise ...

Promise? For him to do that, I'd like to see ten goals out of him before the end of the season and some performances that have Deadbat giving him 7.5+.

There is far too much negativity in his play such as his disappearance for long stretches, his lack of ability to take opposition full-backs on, his inconsistent crossing, his backward play, his poor link-play, his non-commitment in winning individual battles that show 'promise'. If we exit January with him improving and we see him as a provider and scorer of match winning goals then I'll change my opinion of Flynn. But I doubt it somehow.

Fully concur with your view on Flynn Pommpey, but, on Saturday he was a revelation - perhaps £1 million quoted was a tad on the high side more like £100k tops !

McDonald activated a contract clause which he and his agent had inserted when we bought him up on the cheap in the first place, we didn't snap their hands off. I get your sentiment, but it's misplaced here.

I'd be delighted if someone would pay £1m for Flynn, however i suspect he'd be scouted after Saturdays game and that might scupper his chances of a move :).

According to the "Sun on Sunday", Flynn is on loan to us from Liverpool!

£1 mill for Flynn? Maybe if QPR were making the bid?!
I think i can count on one hand the amount of good matches that Flynn has had since being here.

Also it needs to be said that if the team can play like they did against Villa, then why not the majority of matches? Theres alot to be said about confidence, but players also need to take responsibility for their own performance levels also.

Oddly enough I have never thought he was as bad as some make out. On Saturday he played well in a good team performance. His assists rate is pretty good and if you look beyond the usual "he's shit" brigade you will find that actually he is a player playing at his level (League One). If he were any good he would be playing at a higher level.

He has been playing reasonably in an otherwise piss poor team most of the season. Not a world beater (until we sell him of course) but no donkey either.

Historically we all know we have sold on the cheap, but lets see what happens under new stewardship. It could be a new dawn or it could be another false one. Who knows? Not even big Jim.

I've seen and heard this quite alot over the past couple of days and I think it's a pretty simple answer:

Pressure. There was none at all. We were expected to be comfortably beaten so the players could relax and express themselves without worrying about a mistake costing us 3 points and the crowd jumping on their back as a result.

That's the big test for them now. People will have seen/heard how good we were at Villa and compare every single performance to that day when we don't win.

As much as I love DB and his write ups, Flynn would need to score a hat trick and create a further three goals for him to even register a 7 with our resident reporter!

Added to that, I think the type of game we want to play, is more suited to that level. You don't get the space in L1 that you get in the PL.

This, plus the fact that we were set up to let Villa have the ball. The issue is that in most games, it's us who's expected to make the running and we normally end up looking just as clueless as Villa did on Saturday.

If Clough can figure out a way to break down a side playing like United did at Villa Park then we'll fly from here on in.

If we let him go I would just shrug and say "meh", he hasn't been a great player for us and just a average leauge one player to be fair.

another theory would be league one clubs are better than premier clubs , carries just as much logic
we didnt sneak a win , we out played them , more a return to confidence than "pressure", pros are under pressure to win any game, cant see Clough saying , dont need the prize money lads no need to try so no pressure,

Indeed. Unfortunatley its not uncommon for a lower team to pull off a "shock" or get a "scalp" in the cup, thats what makes it so exciting. Most people thought we would lose, we got to play at a premiership ground backed by over 6000 blades and deserved to win. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we go to Notts C and lose miserably.

Chuffed for Flynn, and he'll now have some Championship clubs interested, but I think £1m is a bit steep. Not consistent enough.

It was a delight to see him actually taking his man on.

in truth if anyone did offer a million wed probably snatch their hands off , cant see anyone offering half that on one goal , unless its the scout who sold David Hoskins

I disagree. We definitely deserved to win, and it was a huge confident boost but there wasn't anything like the pressure that it will be at Notts County because that's a game we can't afford to lose. If we'd lost at Villa nobody would have batted an eyelid and the players wouldn't have really lost anything unless we'd been hit for 6 or something.

I have always thought Flynn was ok but like others have suggested above, he is lightweight, lacks pace and sometimes disappears when the going gets tough. That's why he is in Div 1 .
But a good manager gets the best out of players and Flynn has good technical skills, can read a game well etc. What impressed me on Saturday was how he compensated for his lack of pace by wrongfooting their left back and generally keeping/moving the ball.

For too long we have had players who have underperformed, not met potential because of poor coaching/ team management. Saturday was a breath of fresh air Mr Clough

I think more accurately, on Saturday we KNEW the kind of game we wanted to play. That has been sadly lacking this season.

Saying our type of game is suited to the Premier league is crazy in my opinion. We played ever so well, but we scored a deflected Murphy strike and a left foot Ryan Flynn wonder goal. How often do you think those will happen? This was a one off, top performance - it doesn't make us suddenly have a style suited to the Premier League. It was the right tactics down to the letter, but a decent team would still have hammered us.
