A player who I feel clubs in our position will likely be keeping tabs on.

Balogun is a Striker, the pacey type that likes to play off the last defender and try and make runs in to the space behind - the sort of role that Mousset fills in the team currently.
He's just turned 19, and yet to play any senior football, though he has an impressive 10 goals in 15 games at PL2 level. He currently represents England at youth level and is also eligible to play for Nigeria or the USA.

Brentford reportedly had a bid around £5m in January turned down, and it would seem that Balogun is refusing to renew his contract at Arsenal, apparently citing a lack of opportunities.

I imagine Mousset is currently 1st choice for the role currently, with Zivkovic being the only obvious deputy. While I have faith that Wilder can still get the best from Mousset, his form and fitness lack at times, and it's essential that we have other options.

Thoughts?

Sorry I've nothing to add as I dont know him but your logic checks out.

We haven't signed many youngsters with a point to prove and while we can probably only afford 'raw talent' at this level I would pick desire and hunger over proven/lacks motivation any day of the week.

He sounds a great prospect and at that age if he only wants to leave to get more minutes on the pitch than that has to be a good sign.

Even at National though how many of these type of players haven't blossomed into the type of players their talent should have probably allowed? Most seem to have moved to one of the mega clubs a bit too early.

*Folarin

Yeah quality player. My only concern is he thinks he's better than he is. Would he be prepared to sit on the bench?! Respect him for leaving though.

Same agency as Cantwell too.

The lack of senior football is concerning. I doubt he'd be ready and would likely need to go out on loan to the Championship to get some experience of first team football.

Yeah because we're short of strikers and given CW's record on strikers..

Let's not bother eh..

If one of Brewster, Mcburnie or Burke are allowed to go in Jan then Balogun wouldn't be the worst shout tbh.
we havent got the physical striker slav likes in his 4231 system i expect him to bring 1 in this january alongside a defensive midfielder and winger hopefully 3 or 4 will be moved out to accomodate any new signings of course it depends if anybody wants any of our players 🤔

Lower league clubs would love our players, but would the players consider moving ?

probably not their on to a good thing at the lane mcburnie and burke definetly need to be moved on imo brewster probably but still think hes got somat to offer us

He was very average when I saw him for Arsenal U23s at Leeds the other week, his penalty the only notable contribution.

Mika Biereth looked a handful though.

I think you could be right ancient but in that context balogun wouldn’t be that option he’s very slightly built more of a graceful forward than a power house he certainly wouldn’t be able to play the game like mitrovic does.

no baloguns more like brewster weve nobody at the club who fits the role of a lone striker know brereton-diaz has been mentioned at blackburn and hes certainly got the physicality to play that role but your talking big money and unless we can bring money in from 2 or 3 sales doubt its possible for me if we cant bring that type of striker in we might as well forget 4231 and go with a system with 2 strikers up top

Yeah that sort of archetypal 9 who can do it all so to speak is very very expensive one with a proven track record of scoring goals and you’re talking astronomical money. That’s why there’s interest around jebbison is he ready yet? No and he’s certainly not proven but much like DCL he has the tools so it’s worth a gamble for teams now.

I don’t think we’re being held back by the strikers though I’d love a fantastic number 9 but I think we need to address our foundations bring in a true defensive midfielder to secure our defensive capabilities. At the minute it seems to be me that the players know we’re really porous so there’s no confidence to our game even when we go ahead. We play some really nice attacking football at times but the sort of swagger and confidence that should go with that doesn’t seem to be there. I’d also look to bring in another attacking midfielder to compliment ndiaye and MGW in the 3 behind.

definetly agree with you there yogi of the 3 players i think we have to bring in to have any chance of saving this season its a physical dm hopefully to play alongside berge plus a winger and because weve an overload of underachieving strikers i also think a physical number 9 needs to come in players like brereton or jutkivich are what we need for this role and as i said if we cant bring one in we have to go back to 2 up top and maybe go to a basic 442 formation

Strong rumours from up here on Teesside that he'll be signing for Boro on loan for the rest of the season. Deal at the 'advanced talks' stage, and expected to be completed in the next couple of days.

Make of that what you will.

He's got a great record at youth level. Wilder openly admitted he was one that we were looking at & we made enquiries. It'll be interesting to see how he goes. Wilder certainly seems to fancy him, but I'd caution that he also fancied; Brewster, Mousset, Burke & McBurnie. The funds wasted on those players are why we now find ourselves where we are. Relegated without a pot to piss in.

Seen a report that Boro will be covering all of his 40k wages too, which if true is very high for a player with only two league appearances in his career, and seems Wilder is enjoying being able to chuck lots of money at players again.

I see CW has persuaded Gibson to back him heavily. He is highly rated but his lack of experience at first team level makes him a high risk, especially considering what he'll cost even for what is essentially a 6 month loan. on the flip side, if he helps get them up it will be seen as peanuts compared to the pot of gold that awaits them - Madine and Hogan weren't cheap either but played an important part in getting Utd up.

I expect M'boro to make further signings before the end of the month.

Instant game changer up there apparently. Boro fans pretty much wetting their pants over him, saying what a beast he is.

Annoyingly.... the limes of MGW, Balogum and maybe another.... possibly could have kept us in the top flight I feel.

Watched that match yesterday. Thought boro were very average all game, Cov were the better side over the 90. Balogun was the difference, instantly upped Boro’s tempo. Looks an excellent signing

Scored late equaliser/winner (?) against PSG the other day didn't he.
