It's all a bit, well, recent isn't it?

Surely our best seasons were over and done with pretty much by 1925?

Edited for the clickless:

It's a vote on the Football League website for each club to nominate their "greatest" as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations.

Who is Sheffield United's greatest ever player?

Phil Jagielka
Tony Currie
Brian Deane
James Beattie
Alan Kelly

When was Sheffield United's best season?

2002/03
2005/06
2006/07

Who is Sheffield United's best ever manager?

John Harris
Dave Bassett
Neil Warnock

Is that right BoSS??

I am against Internet Polls because most of the voters were born in the 1970s an 1980s and most of them do not know much about the clubs history. For example Eric Cantona was voted Man U's best ever player ahead of Bobby Charlton or George Best in Man U's poll and having seen all 3 players on tv or at BDTBL (and Old Trafford), I would say Cantona isnt as good as Best or Charlton.

I have a keen interest in Blades history so I would say that Ernest Needham is our greatest ever player, John Harris our greatest ever manager (our first manager was Teddy Davison in 1932) and our best ever season is the most difficult choice (1897-98, 1898-99, 1899-1900, 1901-02, 1914-15, 1924-25, 1925-26, 1952-53, 1960-61, 1961-62, 1970-71, 1974-75, 1989-90, 2002-03 and 2005-06 are my candidates). You may wonder why 1899-1900, 1925-26 and 1961-62 are amongst my candidates. Our points total in 1899-1900 was higher than in 1897-1898 (we won the league) but we finished 2nd as Aston Villa did even better than us that season. We scored over 100 league goals in 1925-26 and finished 5th in the 1st division. We finished 5th in the 1st division in 1961-62 (our highest placing from 1926 to present) and we were nominated by the FL to be in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup for the 1962-63 season (Burnley who finished 2nd and Everton (4th) were the other FL nominations- Spurs finished in 3rd place and their FA Cup win got them into the Cup Winners Cup) but the Inter Cities Fairs Cup Committee wanted Everton, Wendy (finished 6th) and Birmingham City (finished 20th) so after a series of meetings and disagreements it was decided that only Everton would be England's participants in the 1962-63 Fairs Cup

Whats 2006-07 doing there? How on earth could a relegation season be our best ever season?

Oh thats right, memories don't go back more than 10-15 years, so just being in the top division is obviously amazing for a club like Sheffield United....

I'd vote 1914-15. FA Cup winners and 6th in Division 1, 3 points off the title. The nearest we have ever got to the double.

What sort of fucking bullshit is this?

" As part of the celebrations of the 125th Anniversary of The Football League, supporters across the country are to be given a chance to vote for their club’s greatest ever players, managers and matches.

In what is the biggest supporter vote ever undertaken by The Football League, votes will be run on a weekly basis and managed on a club-by-club basis, with each club submitting their own shortlists.

Over the coming weeks, the series of votes will cover;
- Best Manager
- Best Player
- Best Season
- Best Captain
- Fans Favourite
- Best Game

The first vote, for each club’s best ever manager, will open on Tuesday 16th July, with a new topic being opened for voting on this site each Tuesday.

Over the coming weeks clubs will be asking their supporters to help them with their shortlists. If you have a suggestion as to whom should be put forward as your club’s greatest ever manager tweet it to your club using #FL125 and #GreatManagers."

Their words, not mine.

Apparently Twitter morons suggested that lot.

I am against Internet Polls because most of the voters were born in the 1970s an 1980s and most of them do not know much about the clubs history.

I'd hazard a guess at 90s and 00s for some of those responses!

James Beattie?!

Fuck the Football League, fuck their shitty little quiz, and fuck 2006/2007.

I'd vote 1914-15. FA Cup winners and 6th in Division 1, 3 points off the title. The nearest we have ever got to the double.

There were a lot of criticisms in the papers about football clubs carrying on playing competitive during that season when there is a war on. There were no victory parade in Sheffield when we brought the cup back from Old Trafford

Slightly OTT.

If James Beattie wasn't in our top 500 we'd have won more titles than Man Utd.

I thought so when i said it, but in mitigation we have spent 60 years in the top flight. And none of them when he played for us. That's a lot of players who have played in the top flight for us, when he hasn't! Including the mighty Adrian Littlejohn. 500 or 50, his inclusion is utterly hilarious.

Surely a more fundamental point is that 2006-7 was relegation from the Premier League nothing to do with the Football League.
