Can't believe how long ago that Arsenal game was. I would have been 9. Might even have been my first game. If I remember rightly, McDonald had broken clear and was about to score their 6th when the ref blew for full-time to spare us.

The joke then was some baloney about the SUFC 'phone number being Sheffield 5o5151 and did it follow the game where Edwards scored a first-half hat-trick against Southampton when Coldwell took over? or was that the other time Coldwell did the job of caretaker (so well btw).

Coldwell took over the caretaker role when Sirrel got the sack in 1975. His first game was the League Cup defeat at Hull. Sirrel agreed to become our new manager in the next few days but wanted to serve his 4 week notice at Notts County. Coldwell took charge in the 2-0 defeat at home to Stoke (there is a youtube clipping somewhere). Notts County then told Sirrel that he can go to SUFC a few days after the Stoke game. Coldwell's 2nd spell as caretaker was in October 1977 and his first match was at home to Southampton. Hamson, Woody and Edwards gave us 3-0 lead in the 1st half before the Saints scored two. After that we won 4-1 at home to Notts County. Edwards (2), Campbell and Hamson (pen) were the scorers

it was Kenworthy who had that place. You must have mistaken him for Longhorn :)

Easy mistake to make as they're both human beings who wore a blades kit (note the distinction between wearing the kit and actually PLAYING, something Longhorn never actually acheived).
A bit like having Gary Coleman and Brian Deane in a police line-up.

We drew against Spurs, was it the previous week and I think there were 31 000 odd in, therefore we thought all was set fair for a good game against Arsenal when a few more turned up but Arsenal had some VERY good players, notably Liam Brady and Malcolm MacDonald and well that was that. I was at these two matches AND the Bolton game and to refer back to another thread, I used to go to the Rovers one week and Bramall Lane the next.

Btw two Donny boys in the Arsenal team, (was that the year they beat Man Utd 3-2 in a fantastic final finale as 'twere?) Massive cash prizes for naming your two fellow South Yorkshiremen.......
Was that the Spurs game , were we came back from 2-0 down to get a 2-2 draw , and were'nt spurs & bolton both promoted that season . ? 2 good teams that year those two .

Yes. It was 0-0 at half time. John Duncan (later managed Chesterfield and Ipswich) opened the scoring and Peter Taylor increased the lead. Keith Edwards pulled a goal back with a header before sub Gary Hamson (back from injury) levelled the scores with a strong low shot from outside the penalty box

Atmosphere was electric at that game , fantastic comeback of course leading up to the major showing up v Arsenal , and the Irish brigade , of o'leary , Brady { class player } and Stapelton who until recently was Irelands top goalscorer , that honour is now L.A Galaxy's Robbie Keane's .Hamson always seemed to notch goals , remember his screamer in the cup v Liverpool , what a finish , pity about the next round though . Thanks again S.B . ;)

Aye, Silent and Blackheathen, I thought Alan Sunderland was a Mexborough boy but Wikipaedia has it as Conisbrough. Rix was from Armthorpe a picturesque hamlet with a burgeoning tourist trade just East of Doncaster.
