Che Adams for me. (Which is sort of the reason that, in hindsight, I'm not overly bothered about the Jamie Murphy sale* - room had to be made for Che.)

Yeah, he's inconsistent, & yeah, he switches off from time to time. But, by God, he's exciting! And he's learning all the time & getting better all the time (although not quite quick enough to make it certain he'll get sold in January...).

Funnily enough, when you think about "must plays" then it becomes clear just how few of them there are. Jose? Billy? Maybe not even those two (although I would have Jose playing every game, personally).

* Assuming ALL that money (& more) is available for recruitment purposes come January.

Yeah Adams is the first name on the teamsheet for me as well.

I don't expect him to be consistant every match. It's the more experienced twats around him that should be more consistant.

Funny thing is alf when I see our team come up before the match on the BBC site

I always seem to think, that looks a good team (on paper) then I go to the game, and

well, you know the rest son.

Yeah, I still think we're woefully underperforming. With that front three alone, we should be knocking on the door of top 2 right now.

Howard as he is the keeper(unfortunately) and keepers always come first on the team sheet !!
As ever UTB .

JCR for me. Not because he’s our best player but because he is our only genuine winger and outlet. How fucking depressing is that? My first name on the team sheet is a 32 year old lower league journeyman. That’s why the Murphy sale does bother me immensely.

Others that should pretty much always play for me when fit are

Collins- Only experienced, reliable contracted CB

Basham- Only player who combines height with some sort of mobility and tenacity

Adams- Big goal threat and can conjure moments of magic.

Sharp- Goal threat, work rate and nous.

For Collins and Basham it’s because we don’t have much competition for their places so they must be a shoe in. Adams and Sharp are our biggest threats so like to see them play as many games as possible. I’m concerned that we’re over reliant on a 19 year old though who probably needs to play out of position on the left to give us our strongest team. Another reason Murphy should have stayed.

Isn't this half the problem? In truth, there are no clear 1st names on the teamsheet.

That tells me that non of them are performing consistently well enough to warrant that billing. It also tells me that they are all very average.

To me a successful team has a core of 4 or 5 solid performers who the team is built around.....we dont have 1.

UTB

In Adkins' system - Adams
In the system I'd like to see us play - Baxter

Billy Sharp just edges it past JCR for me. Without Billy's goals I dread to think where we'd bein the league.

Pretty gobsmacked to see some people think Che Adams has done an effective job of replacing Murphy this season. Yes he's the best option we have on the left at the moment, but he's gone missing in a lot of games.

You are aware we might not score a 2nd/ 3rd goal in a game if Billy doesn't score beforehand?

Scored twice when we've lost, scored the last goal of the game three times when we're already in winning positions. Would have been in a winning position vs Blackpool as well had Sammon not got the miss of the season shortly prior. Already listed the equaliser against Bradford. That said, not really interested in getting into chaos theory arguments in relation to Sharp tbqh, you've got your view and I've got the polar opposite

Jose Baxter. Even on one of his many off days he's still one of the only players who is looking to be positive, looking to play forward passes and is will to try something to unpick the lock, unlike the vast majority of our other players. He often gets stick from the crowd for it when he gives it away but it really doesn't seem to bother him and he'll carry on trying it, I like that about him.

I just wanted to see if I could get you to research it as I couldn't be bothered. Interesting stuff. I wonder how many assists he has? ;)

I think he'll rest Adams before long. Not done much for a while and young lads need protecting when they start to show tiredness.

Adams is th first name on the team sheet.

If you write them down in Alphabetical order.

I still don't rate his overall contribution but you're right about him playing with his head up and playing passes that can actually hurt opponents.

No one.

Adkins must look around training whilst deciding his team and think 'what the f*** am I supposed to do with this shower?'.

And then stick a pin in it.
