We don't have a very good record when in comes to replacing a good manager. If Wilder is leaving, why would any good manager want to work with an owner who spends his money buying up obscure clubs rather than spending it on wages which would have enabled a top manager to keep his team in the world's top league. He blamed Wilder for wasting money on buying players, but Wilder would have bought much better players if he had been allowed to pay competitive wages. All his main targets went to other clubs who were willing to pay premier league wages.

So Wilder has no say on wages? What about all the "paying what he's worth", and "we've got a structure" stuff. I'm sure some of the wage structure we have was put in place with Wilder's say so. Old school rewarded for his effort when they get a new deal with a payrise, have to have earnt it with us, not given it straight away. That's Wilder no?

Very much doubt buying French second division teams cuts directly into Sheffield United's wage budget.

We have a wage structure because we haven't got the cash, if we pretend that we have got the cash and pay wages we can't afford (we could've given everyone in the squad a £10,000 a week pay rise if we'd not bought Brewster) and then get relegated anyway we end up like Sunderland or Portsmouth.

Rock and a hard place, what this required was some compromise, unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there was any from either side.
