Brian is probably commenting on the fact that he thought selling him was a bad idea, but he was dogshit for Newcastle and every club that followed.

Problem with Wayne was that he was a fantastic wing back, just not a very good full back. Him and Vas on either side for Spackman ❤

Exactly. Was never the same player again including when he came back on loan.

Agree with all of the above.

Crap for us and should have been wonderful: Jimmy Johnstone

Great for us but went on to do the square root of sweet bugger all: Tony Agana
(Honourable mentions to Nade, Jamie Murphy, Martin Kuhl)

Hammond. Adkins told us he was the best, he was DOGSHIT, but the unseen type, like the furry white stuff you sometimes see on the park.

Brayford. Was a little sad to see him go, as he'd been decent for us.
Turns out Burton is his level, and was probably the right time for him to move on.
Gave Freeman a chance to prove he was better too.
Brayford in his loan spell for us was leaps and bounds above the level that Burton are currently plying their trade, it’s a shame that the inadequacies of our defence at the time caused a bad injury to Brayford which he’s seemingly struggled to come back from.

Arturo Lupoli. When he signed (albeit on loan) I thought "wow, we've bagged ourselves an Italian, Arsenal academy product. This is going to be excellent"... Nope.

Might be a bit obvious, but David Brooks. Still leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth as I think we undersold him quite considerably, however the money that was raised from his sale funded the signings of Egan & Norwood which effectively sealed our promotion to the Prem.

Good call Mr Wilder.

Did Lupoli really get a chance ?

To be fair ISC. Jimmy was way past his best but I agree, was excited when he signed. There were one or two others who didn't quite live up to expectations, Alan Whittle, Chico.

I still haven't got over Les Tibbott.
Cost us £100k from Bobby Robson's Ipswich, he was kept out of their side by the Great Mick Mills.
I honestly thought we had got a bargain.

I thought Samir Caruthers was going to be our star player before the 17/ 18 season started he’d had a great pre season had taken the shirt off Duffy and then...

It all went to shit for him when the serious stuff started..

A lesson that pre season friendlies mean sod all

James Harper always used to impress me, we signed him and he was toss.

I was gutted when we sold Wayne Quinn but he turned out to be a bit of a flash in the pan.

Slightly differently, I was always a bit “meh” with Stephen Quinn. When we lost him I realised how good a player he was relative to the continual dross we brought in as a replacement.

Kinda surprised Steve Kabba hasn't had a mention, if he'd stayed fit he would've surely been so good we would've eventually sold him to Leeds.
I know we can't keep them forever and he was the finest servant of all the great players we've had through in recent years but we sold Maguire to Steve Bruce who wasted him for 2 years.

I thought Martin Peters was going to be the new messiah. Biggest loss was Mick Jones. Enda has shocked me on how good he has turned out.

Scougall and McNulty both looked great players until injuries hit them

i thought febian brandy was a fantastic signing & was alright when he managed to stay on the pitch. didnt he under weir get sent off, then 3 games later back from suspension v mk dons & got sent off again within 10 mins coming on as a substitute

i loved scougall brilliant player in midfield but maybe he had lost something & is price of success to let favourites go

Did Lupoli really get a chance ?

I would say so, yes. Was signed on a half season loan in Feb '09 & played 11 times, scoring twice according to Wikipedia (once against the pigs).

Did very little else & was certainly not the quality footballer I was hoping (expecting?) to see.

Surprised to learn that he's still only 31 & is now playing in the Italian 3rd division.

Danny Cadamateri... better than Rooney supposedly
Alex Sabella pure class, gutted when he left!

Cadamarteri had an amazing knack of hitting the woodwork far more regularly than the back of net. Not an ideal skill to have.

Tony Agana. Not his fault but I was mortified when we sold him to Notts County. I guess what no one knew at the time is his back was busted.
