First goal offside

Am I the only one who thought firmano to be offside when Mane headed towards goal. Ramsdale saved it and palmed it out to Firmano who stuck it in the net but convinced he was initially offside.

Probably not the only one but whoever did is wrong. He was behind the ball.

Whether or not Firmino it was offside, ( it looked it to me ), Hodgy would have comfortably caught that header from Mane.

Seems to me they`re not taught to catch it those situations nowadays. Parry it, or punch it, and hope !

His arm was definitely in front and I was screaming for VAR to look at it, not realising, as others have pointed out, that he was behind the ball.

When Liverpool no.14 put the ball across, their no. 9 was in an offside position, in front of the ball and the last Blade - as the TV analysis showed. No.10 then had his shot saved, only for no.9 to put it away. Even under the new rules, although the assistant referee need not flag at the point of the initial pass, the moment the scorer (the man who had been offside) hit that ball the flag should have been up. His presence up there at the initial pass clearly influenced play.
For me therefore, the goal should not have stood.

When the cross comes over, Firmino (9) is definitely behind Egan, and probably behind Basham and Stevens too. Very much onside.

Thanks for the opinions. The angle from Sky highlights is not the right one from which to judge no. 9's position. On MOTD it was possible to see directly across the pitch as should be used to judge offside or not, whether by assistant ref, ref or VAR. On that showing, although there is always difficulty with marginal calls, my own feeling is that he (the eventual scorer) is in front of our players. Just a thought; can't matter for the result now, but for me it illustrates how over-complicated the off-side rules seem to have become. Guess I'm pretty much out-voted, so I'll book in at Vision Express and ,,,, weer's mi cooat?

Not even fit to lace his boots. A great keeper, and a wonderful human-being (him, not me). And I do think that his modesty and knowledge of goal-keeping would have led him to conclude that Ramsdale did everything possible to keep the ball out.

I think this more the problem, not the first shot this season where Ramsdale parried it only for the opposition to be first to react.
