Already heard from lots of Blades who are coming along to this one given what's happened - is the club putting on a minute's silence & minute's applause?

RIP Gary.

it has to be applause. As daft as it may sound it shows more respect in my eyes

I sort of agree, the minute silence is brill and effective heartfelt, but the minutes applause to me celebrates all he achieved in football and life.

Exactly my thoughts just didnt know how to put it

Personnally i think Speedo would have appreciated the applause more than the silence.

I'd like to see a minutes silence at the lane on Sat....where we can all reflect on the manner and 'supposed reasons' of this untimely death ....and then I would like to see the club arrange for a special open day/evening where we can show our respect and appreciation for his service to the club . Perhaps a 45 minute memorial service in which we'd make use of the big screen to show clips of him in action with tributes from players past and present and a chance to say goodbye to him in our own BDTBL style .
Followed then with a 60 minute friendly game with a local side to lift everyones spirits .

Just my thoughts....with any monies raised to be donated by Garys' family to a favourite charity .

None of this would be out of place. Let's all do whatever we can to show our respects.

I agree too

I think we should have something lasting to him. Rename a stand or something. I know he wasnt with us for long but no one has ever slagged him since he left.

Leeds are going to sing his name for 11 mins from the 11th minute on sat. Should we do something similar?

A minutes applause on the 15th Minute along with his picture on the big screen would be better.

let all sing one gary speed on 15mins
and all wear either the black legends shirt or last seasons away shirt to the game

The staff and players will wear black armbands and there will be 1 minute applause according to the stir

Confirmed from the OS. http://www.sufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10418~2531607,00.html

Former team-mates and colleagues during Gary's time at the club will be invited to the game.

A minutes applause before kick off.

Current players will be warming up in specially designed shirt.

Chris Morgan and Robert Page will lay wreaths pitchside.

Players and Coaching Staff will wear black armbands.

Large porption of the match day program will be laid to oneside for Gary Speed memories.

There will also be longer lasting pictures of Speed erected in the car park before the weekend, that will remain there for the remainder of the season.

Hmm. Each to their own, but for me the pitchside wreaths are a step too far - a bit like tying flowers to the railings near a car crash site IMHO. Presumably they lay the wreaths, look at them for a bit, then take them away before the game starts? Let's leave the wreaths until his funeral and stick to the applause / silence and arm bands.

I am aware that mine may be a minority view :-)

He was a good player for us, an average manager and, more importantly, a really decent man - & what has happened is very sad & moving - but suggesting that we name a stand after him seems way over the top to me.

Rename a stand? That's completely over the top.

Some people have slagged him off since he left too.

It's all very sad of course that a man in the prime of life should kill himself but, let's be realistic here. Had Speed lived a natural life span his connection with SUFC would have, in 20 years time, been forgotten by everyone expect saddos like me. He was an ok player for us for a year and a bit and a mediocre manager for a few months. With all necessary respect I can't see that the tragedy of his death justifies any permanent memorial at the Lane.

Steve Goulding (70's reserve right back) killed himself in his 30's in the mid 80's and he was connected with SUFC far longer than Speed. e don't have a permanent memorial to him.

Id agree with that.

Agree with that and as you say, when the dust settles and people look back in years to come, there will be 'other' things Blades fans will also remember about him.

Not to take anything away from the tragedy and emotions people are feeling or the mark of respect the club and fans should show but if you'd asked a random group of longstanding Blades (say over 30yrs) last Saturday to name their top 50 Blades 'legends' (and I use the term loosely in connection with United!) I doubt any would have named Speed.

Very true.
