I am as depressed about our result/performance as much as the next blade. However, i cant help but think that blades fans are being a little bit fickle in this situation.

I am guilty of it too, but on wednesday night i was feeling very positive and yet now its all doom and gloom again. Then we may win our next game and we're all off a sudden 'just a couple of wins from the top 6 again'.

OK, we all know in our heart of hearts we wont go up even if we did somehow flutter with the top 6 at some point this season. I also think we all know, however poor we are, we are just about good enough to stay up.

But were in the championship. This is the league where 1st sneaked a last minute equaliser against bottom of the league, where scunthorpe (20th) won at Watford (3rd), and this happens week in week out. Realistically we could finish between 10th and 21st and it may be a matter of luck as to where we do finish up.

We equalled burnley, bettered hull and lost to donny in a week. Thats classic mid-table stuff and have shown that the players at (at times) capable of putting in a decent shift. Lets just leave it be and accept we have many years in this division of doing the same every season, hopefully the gates wont tail off too much because at the end of the day we're used to it by now lets keep up the great support as shown at donny and hopefully there will be a more positive atmosphere at BDTBL and on here after the coventry game.

I can only assume you are unaware of Feyenoords result today Dunc?

Dunc? Well, it would explain a few things......:)

Lost 10(ten) nil. A nice perspective story ready to roll....

Whatever happened to "Ten" off here?

I got my perspective this afternoon as I said I would. Kickabout with the boy in the park, sunny day if cold, really enjoyed it, then home for dinner with Mrs Disorderly and the other little Disorderly's. Now relaxing by means of a nice cuppa, reading a few posts, but not many tonight. Theres only so much personal pain I can spectate. Understandable reaction for sure, but yes a bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss.

10-0 eh? I dont think I'd bother logging-in, for a month.

Lots of people MIA on here...

fickle i dont think so, the fans of Sheffield United are exemplary in their dedication to their beloved club and are without doubt consistant in their wavering support of SUFC, tbh i cannot remember a season when at some point, sections of fans havnt bitched about some facet of the club only to return time after time, maybe to bitch some more but even in that, show support.
if the fans didnt care they wouldnt get so pissed off with bad results, bad player buys or sales, bad board room decisions, the ones that dont get pissed off aare the ones im talking about and its THOSE so called blades fans that could be seen as fickle, those that don't care win, lose or draw that seem to be the fickle fans, if indeed fans they can be called.
like so many here i will always care because these are MY blades, but that won't stop me cursing players, manager, board, groundsman or tea lady if we aren't playing well, but it will never stop me wearing my Blades shirt with pride, because they are MY choice thru thick and thin.

Total nonsense. Its not a case of being fickle. I can only speak for myself when I say I expect better value for the hundreds of pounds I spend every season (more fool me). Having said that I choose not to pursue a vendetta against the club hierarchy and players/manager because a) I dont believe the intention to win is lacking and b) it solves nothing without being constructive.

It is the game as a whole that I blame. I'm very much aware that there are dozens of clubs like ours, whos loyal fans turn out, week in week out and are subjected to a second rate borefest that leaves you so numb you could consider watching hours of televised darts for some release. Saturday evening was awful , just awful and in truth we've seen a number of performances very close to it this season and last.

Because of the way football is, we are one of the clubs left feeding off the scraps no one wants (such is the Championship and beyond) and we build up this idiotic false pretence that good times are always just around the corner. No there not.....at best we will spend a season or two in the top flight only to come back down and go through the same cycle again. In other words.....ultimately disappointment follows!

I like Gary Speed and I admire the effort of the players. I have no ill-feeling towards them but I can see that we are fucking crap and we need to stop pretending we're not. Fortunately I dont think we're quite bad enough to do down (famous last words). This season has been a reality check for me. Not just with United but looking at the whole game that I used to love. Considering financial responsibilities and the quality on show I am likely to be another one that opts out of renewing a season ticket next year and it will be the first time in a long time.

I'm not so sure about this too good to go down business. We're giving away stupid goals week after week without ever looking like having the firepower to pull our selves out.

I think it's less about being fickle and more about expectations. Fans of all football seem to feel that they have a right to expect certain things and if they don't get that (what ever the expectation may be) they then feel that gives them the right to berate all and sundry. This doesn't just happen in professional football, it rings true for semi-pro and junior football, I've been on the end of some of it! What ever level of football you always want to win, if you don't why take part? You have to realise that isn't always possible, try and handle defeat with dignity and come back for the next game determined to give it your all.

fickle.. possibly.. i just want us to do better.. play better.. show some heart.. it seems acutely obvious to most of us on here how we could achieve this.. i'm not that bothered if we get relegated.. i've seen it before .. i'd go as far as to say i'd accept the academy team getting battered every week if they showed a bit of pride

I think blader is onto something here. Speed was the messiah after Hull and now he is suddenly the villain after we got beaten by a better tean. Why should Speed have gone from hero to zero if got outfoxed by a better manager, who has a better set of resources away from home?

Who would have taken 4 points from 9 before Burnley last Saturday? I certainly would. I find myself defending that hapless team because of the fickle moaning Sheffield buggers have berated the team and eveything to do with it. At least I'm consistent in my criticism of the club. Bloody part timers coming in and leaving me with nothing to write.

I don't think fickle is the right word really as of course you win some you lose some. However, when you do lose, you do expect at the very minimum for at least 1 of the 11 players starting to put their nuts on the line and for some fight to be present. We had neither.

Fickle? If I was fickle I'd have buggered off to watch somebody else a long time ago. I like football, and I like to see good football, but as far as changing my allegiance then there's no chance.

I have a bit of sympathy with the OP but we must have some encouragement to continue with enthusiastic support. Mid table obscurity or a relagtion dog fight are not going to sustain decent crowds

on the contrary.. i don't think speed is a zero in the slightest.. the players are a bunch of zero's though.. mourinho himself would struggle with this shower

>Bloody part timers coming in and leaving me with nothing to write
meh.. quality :D
