I see and hear our board have been out in Instanbul on business today which links very nicely what new Blades board member Selhattin Baki was saying about hoping to forge links and build a working relationship with the club he supports Fenerbahce with the view to bringing over a few of their players to help us get back up the leagues.

I know we wouldn't be talking their first team regulars however it can only be a positive move. Fenerbahce are currently the tops dogs in Turkey, they sit top of the Super Liga over there and the minute and I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to bring a few of their players over on loan to see if they can offer us something different.

Nah that was Ferenvcaros in Hungary was it not?

I didnt think we had any links in Turkey. But anyway Jim Phipps has a pic on his twitter of the business meal yesterday in Turkey and I think I can see him and McCabe in it along with Selhattin Baki and the rest must be Fenerbahce representatives and yes hopefully it looks like we are looking to do this, Baki said he wanted to do this and it will be a good move all round in my opinion.

I cant see a problem with this.

However we need players who will hit the ground running. We dont need players who will take time to bed in.

For what its worth i cant see it happening this season anyway.

Jim Phipps has already said that weve brought in too many new players already, so i cant see this happening until maybe the end of the season.

Thought the F.A had clamped down on this type of thing , limiting loans from abroad , after Watford tried pulling a fast one last year , with their Italian backers providing almost a full team of loaned players ? Also how would it affect the players we have on loan if it was to happen.

I can only think of three loanees we have at the moment, Coady, Lappin and Bunn and I'd be very happy for them all to return to their parent clubs. Coady and Lappin because they aren't very good, and Bunn because he hasn't even been deemed worthy of a chance yet.

The current loanees are no better than our permanent squad members, in fact they're probably worse. This is wasteful. Send them back and get some players in we wouldn't normally have a chance of signing.

Turkish football is the most corrupt in the world. Match fixing is rampant. This isn't hearsay, it's a fact. Ask Interpol.

I'd be wary of any connections with Turkish football, in any capacity.

Foreign loans used to be exempt from the domestic loan rules. However because of Watford rather taking the Michael last season they are now treated exactly the same. A limit of 5 loanees in the matchday 18 and a maximum of 4 in a season from any one club.

Bunn is a youth loan so i dont think that counts towards the quota.

I think hes worth a punt on a 1 year deal.

Coady, i think could improve with more games under Clough.
I dont see him as a holding mid though. More box to box.

There are a couple of McCabes in the photo and Ian Cameron.

Unfortunately, there will be some difficulties because Turkey is not in the EU.

The FA rules on non European players are as follows:

A non-European player must have played in 75% of their country's matches in the two years prior to moving to England, with that nation needing to have had an average world ranking of 70 or higher (Turkey is ranked at 40, so there are no issue here)

My view is we won't be getting any Turkish internationals unless we climb the leagues. There could be players some that do have EU passports (some for example might have joint German / Turkish nationalities).

I'm pretty sure in a previous interview Baki said he was closely connected with Fenerbahce's youth set-up. I imagine this is where we'll be fishing to start with.

We all know we have an appalling record with McCabe's previous foreign connections but I actually believe it's different this time. Baki is an SUFC director, he clearly knows quite a bit about football and has good connections with Fenerbache so he could be the catalyst.

Finding someone like that Ozil kid would be quite good ....................

Turkey is in Europe just not the EU. Are the FA rules about Europe or the EU and where does Norway stand on that? I would have thought the FA is more tied in with UEFA than it is the EU.

I always worry about loanees as I believe we are in this division partly do to too many and partly due to the manager turnover in the relegation season.

However King although not a loanee is on a season deal (which is similar in terms of commitment), so a few more could cause trouble as we could lose the club spirit.

If a couple were to come in with the promise of greater things in the future (and therefore motivation) then this may work. I think Bunn will return as soon as his deal is up. But the thing we have to look at is the wage cap for this division and does it fit in with that. If Fenebahce subsidise their wages then there is less of a problem.

Finally I'm not keen on the Blades assisting other clubs with player development (Coady Liverpool) when we have our own to bring on. We are constantly told about the conveyor belt but it seems to have got jammed.

Turkey is actually transcontinental ie in both Europe and Asia. Fenerbache is on the Asian side of Istanbul as far as I'm aware.

However, this footballing definition refers to the European Economic Area, which comprises the EU plus Finland, Norway and Lichtenstein.

So Turkish born players are outside as far as English football is concerned unless they have an EU passport. They would need a work permit with the conditions I mentioned.

But when McCabe forges links with foreign clubs "he should just look at running the club and nothing else"

Not a personal dig at you but McCabe has been knocked for Chengdu, Ferencvaros and Central Coast Mariners so what's different?

Yes to be honest I'd rather see Whitehouse given a chance, I've always felt he could turn into a decent midfielder for us.
