I have seen this mentioned on here and on social media as well. Pertains more to ya'll as obviously it is easier for ya'll to get to games in person than I can. However, I also love to watch games via my tv with the chanting, celebrations, and just crowd noise in general. Unfortunately, I feel that the empty stadiums will be the norm as it were for at least a couple more months, but probably longer. I also think that it will start to wear on the players psyche's as well in regards to not having the fans give them a much needed boost at opportune times and just giving them much needed energy.

So are some of ya'll like me in the sense of not being as upset and/or pissed off as is normally the case due to feeling detached because of not seeing the game in person in your case and in my case watching it on it where it almost seems like a glorified training session with no atmosphere.

The general scientific view is that there will never be a completely successful vaccine just as there is not for flu.
Flu kills several thousand each year in the UK and the likelihood is that so will Covid-19.
Eventually we will have to accept it and get on with life , which is when the stadia will be full again, but not this calendar year.

I still think we willl get up to 20-30 % back in the ground by the end of the season, starting in Spring.

The government will want to see how the country copes this winter, if deaths stay low then we will slowly open more things up.

Full stadiums with no social distancing though? ... 18 months away at best.

Absolutely! I was more or less unaffected by the game and result. Not like me at all.

Covid-19 and it's effects have spoiled everything

We need to be back packed into the lane sadly that ain't going to happen anytime soon so Wilder has to work out a plan for another 12th man

Whenever we can go back in stadiums really doesnt matter, what matters is Leeds would have taken more anyway and even if Leeds did take more, you need reminding that Wendy took a ‘Massive’ 3000 to Qpr away.

I've said it a lot but I find myself caring a lot less, obviously I still want us to win and don't like when the opposition scores, but goals just don't mean as much without seeing and hearing the fans when they go in.

It almost feels like watching training games. Before lockdown I could watch other team's games. If someone gets a winner in the 90th minute of a derby it makes for great viewing, without fans it's incredibly bland if you're not supporting that team.

Go and watch McBurnie equaliser vs Man Utd and Egan Vs Wolves last season, which one is more enjoyable to watch? For me it's a no brainer, the fans make the game as much as the players.

Can't beleive the fear governments have put in people... It's bloody flu! Not a zombie apocalypse!! As someone rightly said thousands die of flu every year regardless. There isn't even a cure for the common cold. More people are dying of cancer or suicides etc... yet this is not reported. If this happened 20 years ago I don't think people would be so passive and receptive. You only live once and you die anyway... so why not just live your life!?
Get these crowds back!!!

H*ll not. I'm in a similar situation as you, I should think, watching the games in the telly. But crowd or no crowd (obviosuly there should be crowd, but I'm not addressing that point here), I hecking care just as much. Yesterday lefet me furious, I reacted the way I'd normally do. This time by drinking beer yesterday, and having a day off, now having started drinking again at 7 AM.

Agree with the opening post....I’m feeling detached too.
I feel as though every game is a pre-season friendly and not that important.

Also I’m sure that if I return with Bramall Lane being 25% full....it will feel depressing.
It will bring back memories of the mid 80’s when we often had crowds below 10K.

I’ve been a season ticket holder for years but I’m already thinking if the ground is only 25% full
with social distancing everywhere, long queues to get in, long queues and staggered leaving, massive queues for the toilets, kiosks and bars.
Maybe the kiosks and bars won’t even be open. Then I’ll regretfully be forced to write off this season and give it a miss.

We need to get fans back in the ground I don't care if it is just 25%.

I think the government is now going full herd immunity by stealth with the school openings. There's really no other justification based on the governments own criterion. They've realised that the virus is here for the long haul, and that we are potentially years from a jab for the whole population. We are immunising the safest age groups first. In time, I think we will get the ground back open due to this policy. No good for the likes of me though: I'm immunosuppressed with various health problems. Football is crap without fans. The only sport I've seen that's not massively negatively affected by the lack of crowd is snooker

I'd love to get back to BL but to call this just flu is wrong. Flu does kill plenty but think what the numbers would be without the flu jab that millions have every year which reduces the number who die substantially. Of course, viruses mutate so it can't ever be 100% a guarantee a vaccine will stop people dying of it. Without a vaccine however, this Covid virus will cause a lot more deaths and serious long term health problems for people. I'd rather be herre to watch the Blades for many years yet than rush back for three months or so. I am over 70 and the stats aren't good for men over 70 who get it.

I see what you are saying and respect it. However I think it should be down to the individual to decide. If you are in an at risk category it should be up to you to do what's best for your own health and stay away from people and not be ruled by state oppression who change the goalposts and have conflicting rules etc. We all know how out of touch politics really are with our society. If you want to risk your life with other people who also want to risk their life then why stop them? These measures are causing more harm than good, especially if it carries on... businesses go bust, poverty goes up, the rich get even more richer because they are taking advantage of the situation e.g. Amazon as everyone is at home they make a killing. People then get depressed and take their own lives. I could go on.

Agreed.

I think empty stadia are affecting us quite badly. For some reason more so than a lot of other sides.

A crowd seemed to galvanise the side - home or away.

It was evident in the games played after the restart last season. For the most part we seemed to lack the same intensity that we had before that and that has carried on into the first game of this season.

I don't know why this is the case and I don't know what the solution is!

Where bouts you from in the US Yank? Do you follow the NFL? Was just as strange this weekend in the NFL with the empty stadia, being able to hear the QB barking out plays and the crick of the officials necks as they looked the other way every time a NE defender mauled a Dolphins receiver.. 😆

You may be right but there is no political will to open up, the government is committed to following the Whitty model of almost Zero Covid and the official opposition that usually challenges the Government policies wants if anything tougher lockdowns.

The only polical pressure group that might have put pressure on the Government to relax things a bit Are the tory backbenchers, But they are unfortunately still obsessed with fucking Brexit so they can’t muster a fart at the moment.

I am over 70 and the stats aren't good for men over 70 who get it.

That‘s the common fact that everyone accepts and admits is fact....however just want to re-assure you that the risk is very low.even for 70’s age group.

Currently 15.21% of the UK population are over 70..
Population 67,976,950, so that means we have 10,339,294 over 70’s living in the UK.

Its a very high risk group with 80% of all deaths are from the over 70’s group.
UK deaths to date stands at 41,637....so there’s been 33,309 deaths from the over 70’s group.

Divide total deaths by total occupants and it shows that currently a 1 in 310 people in your age group have died from covid.
However almost all the deceased already had underlying health issues and roughly 50% of all covid deaths are from the 80’s and 90’s group.
The average age of covid deaths in the UK currently stands at 82....so anyone in their 70‘s would be the younger end.

...however where life is involved then can appreciate even if theres a 1 in a 10,000 chance of death people would prefer not to take the risk.
Also this is personal choice...people have different circumstance so we need to respect differences...and that people might have different viewpoints,

Don't buy into the vaccine thing at all.

Forcing people to take a hastily arranged vaccine won't wash with huge numbers of people, and if it isn't mandatory, you've still got issues.

The implications of long term closures and distancing are going to far outweigh the virus itself if that's really the plan.

In non league it's now 30% of the minimum ground capacity to play in that specific league.

Not sure what minimum PL capacity is?

I'm travelling to Franz Josef Land next year so I'll give you a wave ;)
Covid notwithstanding, naturally.

Fans are back in Germany and the players are reconnecting with the fans.

North Carolina pal. And was weird for sure when I watched the Panthers game😆

The same flu that killed 12 times more people than coronavirus last month btw.

I’ve said it before, so sorry for being a bore, but we are talking 2-3 years before we have an effective and safe vaccine that can be manufactured at scale and given to sufficient numbers of the population for widespread immunity to develop. Even then, it won’t be 100% effective and the same ones who are vulnerable now will remain vulnerable.

What to do eh?

Postpone or cancel life, or just get on with it?

🤷‍♂️
