Alan Quinn's is always a nice one to watch. They'd been giving it to him all game and then he just cracks one in.
Non of this not 'celebrating against your old club' bollocks either.
Good lad.

Leon's first in bounce killer match, the shock on their fans faces said it all.
Jags goal v Weeds, sat in kop, had rad sheff on listening to their commentary, and of course Paul Walkers, unbelievable commentary.

I'll always remember getting back to the local pub.

Wednesday mate was there. Said Quinn didn't celebrate to which my pal butted in to say he knew he wouldn't before I finished with muchhhh. Full length of pitch pal 🤣

In all the years I've watched football I don't think I've ever seen one player have a season like Brown did. Some of his goals were exceptional, not just long range shots and volleys but also picking the ball up and attacking the box.
What we would give for a midfield player to have the same impact now.
And yet, I have always been convinced that, had he scored the penalty against Wolves, we would have gone on to win that game.
That and he played box to box as well putting in more than his fair share of tackles.

Funnily enough I was going to put that in my comment. Arguably the Ipswich goal was better but the Pigs goals wins due to the occassion. He scored some great goals that season. It still baffles me that McCabe sold him the following season for £500k. Apparently he had Beattie flu but that hadn't got a name yet!
What baffles me even more is after starring for us and scoring all those goals spurs turned him into a defensive midfielder

We sold Michael Brown to Spurs for only £500k because he wouldn't sign a new contract and would have left for free at the end of that season.
I don't get why people don't seem to understand this and it's fairly common practice for most clubs.

Once a player has only 12 months left on their contract, their value will start to decrease. Same reason we sold Berge and Ndiaye, same reason we signed Michael Cooper.
In Brown's case it got to the point there was only 6 months left, hence the relatively small fee.

One of Lydon's favourites.

John MacPhail 1-1 at Bramall Lane, 1980.

On another note, watching as a neutral, the 2-2 at Bramall Lane when James Beattie scored a free kick.
I can go to my grave and say, with all honesty, there were NO bottles thrown onto Wednesday supporters at the Bramall Lane end.
It was the Derek Dooley match... just after he'd passed away I think.

Which was a complete fuck up by the club .

I know for a fact that he didn’t particularly want to leave us but recognised that he was our best player at the time and asked for a salary that reflected that , which was 8k per week and which was rejected out of hand .

His value at the time was widely reported as being around 4 million , but rather than paying him somewhere near what he asked for , we let him go for £ 3.5 million less than he was worth .

Edit - response to coazingstar above .

It was (and is) fairly common practice but given where the team was and the small sum realised it was a bad decision.

Brown has stated on more than one pod that he would have quite happily stayed for the season. He had a move to Rangers lined up. McCabe wanted the money.

500 grand over a likely playoff place, given how close we were at the end.

Of course, not selecting Lee Baxter for the Burnley away game would also have got us the points we needed. Fine margins.

I'm sure Brown himself admitted doing that as he realised that he didn't have the legs and pace to play for Spurs the way he played for us. He changed into a defensive midfielder so that he could play regularly in the Premier League.

Poor decision, maybe, but not baffling given McCabe’s track record.

Most memorable were Akinbiyi and Tonge . Probably because I wasn't half passed watching it.
Both great strikes , watched on the beamback at the lane .
Had radio commentary on a radio which was slightly infront of the picture so was up celebrating with before the ball hit the back of the net .

Never forgetting Flecks opener on bouncing day,Brooks disguised roll back from the free kick for JF to curl into the corner..great stuff !
Got to be up there👍And contributing to arguably the best start and finish to a derby(Duffy). For me anyway.

Such an underrated goal - understandably overshadowed by the bounceslayer in the second half

Bobby davisons at hillsborough on their north stand with loads of blades was brilliant

And don’t forget his other one . Both were perfect examples of the art of goal poaching .

I was a great admirer of him before he signed for us and was delighted when he did so , but never dreamt that he would have such an immediate impact and in such joyful circumstances. :)

I enjoyed the Akinbuyi goal, a poor first touch made it look like the chance had gone then he hammers it into the net. A sprint back to our half for a chest bump with Morgan was a top celebration.
