Looking through the posts on here, without having seen many of the squad, I became increasingly concerned that in Jose Baxter, we had signed the Michelin Man. In my mind, I began to compare him with the Hillsborough pie man, who kept the unclean afloat in so many games against us.

Light then dawned. The pie man, I grudgingly have to admit was a half decent keeper. Not the equal of Trace 0r Kelly, but, for a fatty, not bad at all
My mind drifted back to when I saw Hodges, not the slimmest Blade around, but so what, it didn't affect the magic that he created.
Even further back, I recall the Magic Magyars, Puscas, being berated about the size of his gut . He gave his answer during the game.
Scrolling down the messages, I saw a pic that was allegedly that of Mr Baxter?? Fat-- no way. He is probably at his best weight to put himself about. Good luck Jose.

I liked the look of Jose Baxter under David Weir as he looked like the player even then most likely to do something but suffered because of the quality of play around him.

At the minute Clough is putting a side out which is pretty make do and mend with what is available in the squad and scratching out the results but give it time as the side evolves i expect Baxter to be instrumental in the side.

Baxter's problem isn't so much weight but lack of pace. He's showing some good touches and can finish. I really doubt that he'll be effective in the League above.

He'll never compare to Hodges, a fine Premier League and international player.

Hopefully Baxter can help us to get out of this division next season.

In the 60s when we had a goalkeeping injury crisis, John Harris signed Des Thompson which solved the missing pies in Buxton mystery

I think Baxter is far and away our best footballer, but I do think he's unfit. I don't think he's particularly fat, but he looks unfit to me and went missing at times in a game last Saturday that was made to measure for him to dominate. Don't get me wrong, he had a decent game and without him, the two sides could still be playing and it'd still be 0-0. But for 5-10 mins before the goal (and including it), he was running everything. He needs to do more than that.

I don't care if he's quick as long as he's fit. Harry is fit, though he's still slow. But Baxter has the potential to be a great player for us if he works a bit harder.

That might be harsh after the one game I've been to, but I'm going 3 times in the next 3-4 weeks, so I'm expecting to see more of his class!

Is that a double chin? I think he looks a bit chubby for a professional athlete. That bit is they key.

Pressman would have a shit season and miraculously when he faced United would turn into the lovechild of Gordon Banks and a mad octopus. He would fling himself around like a man possessed, making saves that in other matches against other teams he'd not make if he had a time machine to help him. Against us however he saved lots, although thankfully not all of them.

To be fair Andy Reid was a bit chubby but was in my opinion the best footballer we've had for a long time probably since Hodges. TC in his later time with us wasn't too quick either but good players who make things happen (chubby, knackered or not) are worth their their weight in gold. It's up to the rest to do the leg work for them.

Paddy Buckley was our chubby player when I started following football in 1970 but looked an useful player when I saw him in reserves matches. He went to Rotherham in 1971/72.

I liked the story behind England cricketer Colin Cowdrey's nickname which was PF. On a MCC tour in Australia, a young Australian fan came up to him with a pen and an autograph book saying "Sign here, you podgy f***er"
