If its true - been here before dont forget then its a shame looked promising especially against Forest in friendly pre-season and i thought he might of had a look in - but if he stays personally should play him

So we get rid of a promising young talent and look at signing a 34 year old?

Jesus.

Anyone would think Warnock was still here.

Robson isn't really in charge. :)

WOAH WOAH WOAH.....

Neither of these 2 have actually been confirmed.
Honestly lads, we're going on hearsay again, and no facts.

Who says even if both deals were to go through that it would not be better for us in the long run?

We are starting to stress again over NOTHING.

Actually it has been confirmed that Ze Maria is being given a trial.

And even if Fathi isn't going, why isn't he playing? As has been pointed out, he looked good against Forest and considering how revered he is in Egypt, he can't be that bad a player.

I wonder if this Ze Maria is one of Robbo's drinking buddies?

Sorry for being negative, Robbie, but there's absolutely nothing inspiring about the club at the moment.

Ze Maria maybe confirmed as on trial, but that means we are only looking at him. If he impresses then yes, why should we not sign him.

As for Fathi, he has a lot of caps for egypt at such a young age, he looks promising (to us)..... but Egypt are hardly world beaters, and perhaps BR has not seen anything in him that warrants a first team place.

I understand this, but it's still not filling me with confidence. Especially when BR saw something in Leigertwoed which warranted a first team place alongside Monty, before he was sold.

No comment :D

He has gone now.

According to my official club text.

For £675,000 to Qatar but on loan 1st.

Just got a text from Chrissy

Fathi returns to Egyptian top flight. He joins Al-Ahly for £675,000 - though first goes on loan in Qatar owing to loan restrictions.

This must be from SUFC as spelling isn't awful like Chris's haha

On OS now too....

The Blades have completed a deal that will see midfielder Ahmed Fathi return to Egyptian top flight football less than eight months after coming to the Lane for £700,000.

He will join Al-Ahly for a fee of £675,000 although he is likely to play on loan first in Qatar owing to loan window restrictions.

Football Club Chairman Terry Robinson said: "Ahmed has been a bit unfortunate in that he was brought in by one management team and was part of their plans, but changes at the top often change player's situations.

"It's a bit of a shame for the lad but Ahmed wasn't part of Bryan Robson's plans but he has ability and goes back with our best wishes."

I don't see problem in all fairness.

He wasn't part of Bryan Robson's plans, would you rather have kept him and him not been played? Or get our money back that we spent on him?

Fathi has never been a revelation or anything, he has only ever done ok in the matches he has played for ourselves.

I can however see the point that we are letting players go and not replacing them YET.

Very fucking short sighted. Our midfield is struggling like Hawking in a bath, and we ditch Farty after a fairly decent pre-season?

I'm a little miffed and confused.

No, I'd rather Robson give him a chance instead of trying to get in old men, or banging on about players (Stelios, Campo, Gravesen) whom we have no chance of getting.

I thought we'd actually lost money on this deal, as well.

Fathi might not have been a revelation, but neither's Monty and it's not stopped him being played. As I said before, Leigertwood was shit but Robbo still played him.

We lost 25k if rumours are to be believed that we got him for 700k

Monty was an integral part of our promotion campaign when we went up last. He was also an integral part of the team in the Prem too, which sadly went down.

Your arguement regarding Leggy holds no water because he was sold too was a decent offer was made.....

Still lost money, whichever way you cut it.

Monty has been made to look better by other players around him. If we had a defensive midfielder who could pass the ball more than 5 feet without losing it we may have done better in the Prem. Fathi managed to turn out for his country, too, and although they might be 'only Egypt' they managed to win the African Cup of Nations.

It does hold water. He was still played when there was clearly no need to play him.

I'm not going to boo, and I'm not going to boycott matches or anything like that, but I'm not going to pretend that I'm happy with the way the club is being run at the moment, and I'm also not going to pretend that everything is alright, because it isn't.

Fair play to you Matt,

All I'm saying is, BR decided he wasn't in his plans. So in my eyes, it is best to get a decent price for him than letting him rot in the reserves.

I see what you mean. Interesting that he only came out a little while ago and said he was going nowhere, though. he even said he was in the squad against Colchester, which was a lie. I wonder if there was a falling out behind the scenes?

Perhaps he couldn't walk the walk like an Egyptian.

Perhaps as a Muslim he had issues with BR's 'glug glug' habits ;)

Blades boss defends Fathi Egypt move

BRYAN Robson today explained that the decision to dispense with Ahmed Fathi's services was based on concerns about the player's suitability for Championship football rather than his pedigree.

Fathi, who could be replaced at Bramall Lane by former Brazil international Ze Maria, last night returned to Egypt after completing a £675,000 transfer to Al-Ahly less than nine months after being signed by Robson's predecessor Neil Warnock.

The decision has raised eyebrows among some sections of the club's support who feel that Fathi, the youngest person ever to be capped for his country, was never given the chance to prove his worth in the English game.

Robson said that his failure to break into the first team was simply a matter of style.

"I'm looking for something a little bit different," Robson said. "I think Ahmed is a good player but he's not quite what I'm looking for.

"I'm just didn't think that he was suited to the Champion-ship style of play, the way you've got to do things in the division, and so it is the best thing for all concerned. Really, it's just down to that.

"He's a nice lad and I'm sure he'll do well. I wish him all the best."

Well id of liked to have seen him play aleast one championship match really to be able to judge Fathi better at this level.
