Like with everything, its also about how the person in charge delegates responsibility and trusts their opinion.
I doubt Wilder was tracking every player and working out who he liked, who he didn't like the look of. There must have been an element of opinions being given and he then either listened or ignored.
He would have then given his shopping list to the board and then left it with them to see if they could make it happen.
My view on it is that AI is given the role of making suggestions (Selles will be able to do the same and I am sure give some form of opinion if there is one on the AI list).
The board then see what they can make happen. The difference is that the AI list is likely to be less well known people so should be cheaper and could be seen as more of a gamble. But I would also suggest the same can be true of lots of recommendations that humans have made even in the past few seasons... (Max Lowe, Jamie Shackleton (willing to be convinced otherwise) Beni Traore, Slimane, Larouci, the list goes on.)
