I spoke to a 12 year old family freind over Christmas- lovely lad, Blades season ticket holder. Whilst talking about David Brooks, he told me he needed a good run as “Cam”. “Whats cam?” I asked. “C.A.M.” he said, looking at me like a fusty old buffoon. “Central Attacking Midfielder??? God- dont you play FIFA?”.I’m not having this ‘CDM’ abbreviation that’s creeping into the game.

A kid I used to teach asked me who I supported once, when I told him I was a blade he said 'No, who's your BPL team?' A common FIFA abbreviation - he actually couldn't believe that I supported a team that wasn't in the premier league.
The use of the abbreviation BPL deserved a lifetime of detentions.
In all fairness that’s been the case for twenty years apart from the brief period where streetwise sports in town used to have United shirts. Sheffield to me seems like the last bastion of proper football fans. At schools and soccer camps the majority of shirts are blades or Wendy which Jake Wright testified to in an interview just before bouncing day. In all honesty I would consider myself more of a failure as a father if my offspring grew up to be a Man City “fan” who goes once every two years more so than if I raised a piglet who at least goes to Sty every week. It won’t be a problem cos “it’s in yer blood” but I genuinely hate the thought of buying arsenal shirt at Christmas for lad.The sad thing is, its only going to get worse. As football becomes a “TV Show” rather than a sport, you see young kids wandering around Sheffield in Man City, Arsenal, etc shirts. Go to Meadowhall and you cant find Blades or pig shirts in the sports shops, but Liverpool, Man U, even crap like West Ham are on sale.
Saying that, you cant find pig shirts in their own shop most of the year!
Fuck me I must be getting old ... I look at that Panini sticker with all the abbreviations and it looks like a Periodic Table !!
I'm feeling slightly grubby, having just sold Leon.
I don't know what that means but take a like

Cadbury's Dairy Milk?
My lad is regarded as the school eccentric for his passionate commitment to t' Blades: everyone else is as Chelsea, Arsenal or Man U 'fan'.

Lets not forget the old favourite PK. Then there is cross ball and offence that the Yanks have kindly given usI lose patience and confidence in someone’s football knowledge when I hear any of the following:
EPL
Don’t you support a big team as well?
He has that X-factor
I don’t really support anyone
Referring to us as Sheffield
False 9
Any formation that can’t be presented in 3 numbers
It’s not like the good old days. And I’m only 33.
