I speak for myself only, I am not what the star refers to as a "militant supporter".

I am not interested in a managers/ players past association with any of our local rivals. If anything I always enjoy it when they come to us because it urbs their noses in it when they do well.

The furore about Wilson, for me is purely based upon his record. Sure he had a couple of brief spells at Hartlepool and Barnsley where people got giddy. But on the whole, his record is poor.

Is it an over reaction? I don't believe so. Those that are aware of my posting, I am normally trying to see the positives in what the club do. But this situation is different. I didn't think Micky had been given a fair crack in 4 months and I bit my tongue awaiting McCabe to pull this one out of the bag...

It looks like we've gone cheap again, should I be surprised? Probably not, but if McCabe has taken responsibility for where we have now ended up, then I firmly believe that he must pay the price for this.

Does paying the price mean stepping aside? Absoultely not. He needs to appoint the right man. Roberto Di Matteo was that man, otherwise why mention his name after Micky had gone?

I bought my ST because I am a Blade and I support the club, but I also expect the club to recipricate the loyalty of 10,000 ST holders by not always taking the cheap way out. Is it too much to ask? It seems it.

Don't get me wrong, I've stood by these cheaper options in the past and watched us slowly accept 2nd best time and time again, i've even supported it, because I thought (hoped) that we could do the Blades trick of scraping by.

The daftest thing about this is that Blades fans are willing and ready to support their club in numbers, almost 30,000 for the Youth cup final at the lane, 6000 away fans to Old Trafford, 7000 away to Palace a couple of seasons back. So why are we getting the rough end everytime.

I am completely at a loss with this appointment, I can find no positives and as such I have not intention of giving this man a chance. Perhaps Wilson will storm up the leagues to the PL and we'll be in Europe in 10 years. But its yet another gamble and one that I am not prepared to stand by.

I spend £300 on my season ticket and make it back from Switzerland for almost every weekend home game (and some away), I plan my weekends around Blades games and I was prepared to do the same next season AND go to more away games, much to the disgust and dismay of my lass. But when it costs between £180-400 each time I come back then I will be choosing my weekends back more wisely and not as blindly as before.

My support of McCabe has gone, my support of Wilson will never be there.

Sorry McCabe this appointment has just lost one of your few remaining supporters.

Wilson has spent 12 of seasons of management in Div1

He has achieved ZERO promotions and 2 relegations from that time.

Lets be fair to him, he has had 2 promotions in his career. Its some achievement.

However, as a general summary, he leaves/ gets fired from clubs when they are in a worse position than when he took over.

Fits the bill perfectly for working to the "Blades way".

Top stat, and should be quoted against any pro-wilson appointee.

In fact i'm putting it as my signature :)

I changed my first post a little bit and sent it to the lane by email. I very much doubt i'll get a response, but it made me feel better :)

i've come to the conclusion that mccabe gets a kick from antagonising the fans.. it's my club. take it or leave it kind of thing

not bad to say Mccabe is 100% sure DW is the right man. So was Robbo, Speed and Adams.

DW --- I know a DW right thick twat and a pig.

No, but he did get Barnsley into the premier league for the only time in their history, and he got Hartlepool promoted. He got 3 play off finishes in the third division (or current division 1) and two of those 3 got to the play off final.

He did very well at Swindon, transforming them from a relegation threatened outfit to play off finalists in 2 years, and it only went wrong when he lost the nucleus of his side, which I would doubt was his decision.

To be honest I find the reaction of a section of our supporters very, very disappointing.

Wison may do well or badly for all I know, but I think he is more likely to do well if we are supportive rather than calling for his head before even a pre season friendly has taken place!

I really don't see why his appointment is such an insurmountable prfoblem.

His crimes seem to be that he's a Wednesday supporter (not true to my knowledge), that he played for and managed Wednesday, and that he once said something insulting about us.

Well, some of the best people at the club over the years have either played for Wednesday or managed them - Ian Porterfield and Derek Dooley being 2 examples. The latter was also at one time a Wednesday supporter and no doubt still felt some affiliation to them when working for us.

And as for being insulted; well at various times in my life I have been insulted by good friends and family, as I am sure most of you have been. But people say things in the heat of the moment. They don't necessarily mean them, and often regret what they said. It's called being human, and I don't hold it against people forever, just as I don't expect it to be held against me forever when I do something similar.

Old blade he did get Barnsley promoted to the premier league a hell of a long time ago but we are but we are a million miles away from those days now. Its the stat by sheffielder that is worrying for me. 12 seasons in league 1 and zero promotions & 2 relegations.
Does nothing to inspire me at all. The fact he was a pig has nothing to do with me disliking him its the fact he is shit. Hope he proves me wrong

LOVE UTD. HATE WILSON

He has had 1 relegation from division 3, not 2. Swindon were still outside the relegation zone (albeit, not by much) when he left and it was not a foregone conclusion that they would go down.

Edit - Are you saying you hate him because of this and the fact he hasn't won a promotion from division 3 then?

Not talking about you here Swiss Blade, but given you could clearly hear the pitch-forkers chanting "sack the pig", its pretty clear what their major bone of contention is.

I'm pretty certain that's what the main grievance is. Generally managers are hated because of their association with certain clubs, not because of their records at other clubs.

I hate wilson for his record as a manager not because of the wendy connection. How Mccabe can say that he is the stand out candidate shows to me he has seen very little football.

One thing that got me about the press conference is that Mccabe couldnt be bothered to attend even the home leg for the under 18's Disgraceful

Did you hate Adams for his record, which is fairly comparable?

But did you hate him just because of his previous managerial record, because that is the reason you are giving for hating Wilson.

and it only went wrong when he lost the nucleus of his side, which I would doubt was his decision.
That's the most worrying thing for me. Losing the nucleus of the side is exactly what's happened to us. We needed someone who can still succeed despite that (I know it's a tall order).

I've given up sulking now and have resigned myself to the fact he's our manager. Not happy but booing him will just unsettle the team more so I'll just stay quiet. That'll teach him.

So Swiss, you didn't think Quickfix Micky got a fair crack of the whip, despite:

4 wins in 24 games;
Collins, Doyle and Bent;
Dinosaur Dave;
Consecutive defeats in a single week against our 3 main rivals;
Relegation.

Wilson, on the other hand, is to be given no chance whatsoever, not a single game, to rival Micky's incompetence?

I wonder why?

No wonder SCB doesn't believe you!

Now the dust has settled a bit and I have watched the full press conference and listened to what DW had to say.

Have to say he came across really well and said the right things. Therefore I am willing to reserve judgement on him. After all if he does get us up he will be a hero.

That said I wont be singing Danny wilsons red and white army ----- At least this season
