Evening all. I'm looking for some feedback regarding sitting in the John street stand.
The wife and I are taking our two lads to the Bristol City game and it will be there first games. I'm just a bit concerned as that stand looks like it's always blinded by the sunlight and with it being a 12.15 kick off I don't really want their first experience of BDTBL to be through squinted eyes and moaning!! Come to think of it that's how I've been watching the games for years!!
Any feedback or advice on other areas to sit with two young lads would be gratefully received.

Why did the bristol fans get moved ? Any reason ?

On the kop, where they should do their apprenticeship.

Except they won't see a thing as everyone stands up as soon as there is a corner or goal mouth action. Also fans there tend to be the most, shall we say, in need of anger management courses. :) Family stand is great with kids, the bad language is tempered somewhat, not too busy at half time and easy to get in and out for a pee. I don't know how old your boys are, but at the risk of being called a wuss, I would think the kop would be a bit too much in your face for their first game. As someone said, baseball caps should solve the problem of the sun.

Most of what you say is true, but the serious point is, for many including me, if the football experience was based on what you get there, I'd have never been hooked on it in the first place. I lapse occasionally and go in the South Stand for some cup games, and it truly bores me shitless.

They're only 7&3! So, I think the kop is definitely out of the question

There are lots of very young kids who go on the kop. I appreciate you lose the view for a variety of reasons, but in my experience the language is no different. And certainly the South Stand more than matches it for moaning bastards.....:)

It's a long time since I sat on the kop I have to admit, but my experience of trying to go for a pee at half time took for ever, whereas family stand you're always pretty near a gangway and consequently near to the bogs. My memory of taking a five year old involved numerous trips to the bogs when boredom set in, not mine I hasten to add :) although come to think of it...........
Also, another pro for the family stand, which isn't applicable in August I would hope. When it's REALLY cold, the kop is colder and no respite at half time, whereas the concourse on the family stand has heaters where you can warm little hands and chestnuts roasting on the fire and free hot chocolate..... Oh OK I'm kidding

Sorry I meant the away fans in general, after some of ours threw a red smoke bomb into the bottom tier during one of our FA Cup games, since then every away team was on the top tier.
