Will there be any comeback from this? There have been many comments that we don't deserve the money, that we should give every penny of it to Iain Hume, and that all the neutrals in world football hate us.

A lot of it has come from West Ham fans, especially one extremely biased fat journalist. I've had lots of grief, including not-very-veiled threats, from my Times columns. There will be many lining up to throw accusations at us, but do all the neutrals really hate us now? Or is it only West Ham fans wanting us driven out of existence?

No doubt Barnsley fans hate us, but that's only since Iain Hume was injured. Are there any more?

I post on a general football forum and to be honest, I've yet to see any posts concerning that there that dont see the way Sheffield United dealt with this in a bad light. Of course, the way Warnock went around pissing off just about any Premiership manager before hand, probably didn't help. I think this lesser payment and how it's staggered though wont make most people think you get any future sucess due to sueing West Ham but on your own merit, a couple of million a year in this economic climate in football is really not going to make a huge difference even if it is a nice bonus.

To be honest I really don't care what people think of us on forums.

West Ham by not fighting all the way are showing guilt.

That said I don't care anymore.

Scudamore and Richards are the ones who should go next!

:)

In this thread about charitable donations dingledog mentioned that United could give an amount to charity from this. He mentioned 20%.

Why not stick two fingers up to the ones who said we did it only for the money and give the lot to charities? Some to Sheffield Children's Hospital, some to the Bluebell Wood hospice, and to other kids charities in the area. This would show the world that it's not the money, it's the principle.

The way it should be though I could equally argue that Sheffield Utd not fighting the case to the bitter end shows lack of confidence in winning it too. As I've said somewhere else before, this settlement is going to leave fans a bit miffed on either side. I dont think Sheffield Utd deserve anything much if at all out of us but I'm happy it puts a stop to all the crap being written in the redtops as I'm sure you are too.
And having other fans hating you only increases the meaning of certain matches, hey, that alone could see gate attendances and profits rise as well. ;)

Absolutely brilliant idea.
How good would that look to everybody ????

I agree in the principle but in harsh reality it may not work.

Yes we could do this.

But in harsh reality it did cost us big time and wages have to be paid.

Football is a business.

Do we give all the cash up just for the "moral ground" which West Ham fans want to push us to?

Should it have all been about money?

No!

Who's really at fault?

The powers that be who should have deducted points and relegated West Ham......which may still happen.

Just look at other clubs, such as our neighbours Rotherham to see how punishment doesn't fit the crime.

West Ham and perhaps ourselves should be slightly more humble in this outcome and move on!

:)

I think that's a good idea and would certainly shut the critics up. It reminds me of when Beckham equalised Bobby Moores England caps record. Of course a lot of Hammers wern't too happy due to the ammount of those that were sub appearances ect. Beckham then donated his shirt from that game to the Bobby Moore foundation for cancer, made him look good and shut the critics right up.;)

Wonder how long it would be before Bobby Moore was mentioned.

:D:D:D

Giving the money away in donation would look good for the club however is this really going to happen with the people we have in charge.
Mind you we might have to pay out now because now that we have settle with West ham other want their payments from us. I'm talking about our player who missed out on PL pay and Mr Warnock.

A fair point being made here will Warnock and the players want the money out of our payment?

I've emailed the club, with it addressed to Kevin McCabe, suggesting that we could give some, as dingledog suggested, or indeed all of the cash to charities. Let's see if I get a reply.

I do hope you mentioned putting it behind the bar in the Lion as well ;)

I know we are being blamed for the death of football.

When really it lays at the door of the PL in my opinion. Not just because of the Tevez case I think the monster they have created really that football is becoming a survival of the richest.

I really would like to know where exactly the £5.5mil was spent?

I'd imagine something along the lines of a new bar at the FA headquarters etc.

The PL need to draw up definative punishments for rule breaking, so it is clear what will happen to any and all clubs if they break the rules.

The current method of screwing the little clubs, doing nothing to the middle sized clubs, and letting the big clubs do what they want is no good for football.

But then, who cares about a few blokes running around on grass kicking a lump of leather, it's all about corporate sponsorship and money now.

A most sensible synposis of the whole situation. Add in the total screwing over of real fans at every opportunity and you have modern football. How very, very sad!

TBH I don't see why we should give any of it away to charity just to make ourselves look good.

Sheffield United were hard done by, they lost money as a result. They received compensation for that, thats most probably below what they actually lost in reality. Where's the injustice in that requiring the money to be given away?

Sheffield Unted are still out of pocket so why shoudl they put themselves further out of poket in a PR excercise that has no other benefit than to make us look generous in front of other fans?

I'd far rather it was used to pay off debts and strengthen the club than be given away in some ultristic gesture that does nothing for the club other than placate some club haters who'll be hating us again 10 days after we gave it away anyway.
