This gets underway tomorrow night with a very tricky trip to Oldham, who have won 7 of their 10 games so far this season and seem to be in pretty good shape.

I've done a little bit of research on them and the one to watch would appear to be Jordan Bove, who had already bagged 8 goals by the 30th September, so we'll have to keep a close eye on him and cut off his supply if we can.

I suspect we'll line up something like this:

------------------------Gareth Owen

Jason Paling---Ioan Evans---Joe Cheeseman---MJ Kedman

--------------Ben Whiteman-------Louis Reed-----------------

Jake Wright----------------Otis Khan------------Joel Coustrain

---------------------------Dan Cockerline

Subs: Jake Eastwood (Keeper), Kyle Scarisbrick (Centre Half), Elliot Ptak (Left back) Connor Dimaio (Centre mid) , Kler Heh (Either wing), Mickael Partodikromo (Either wing or just behind the striker), Robbie Fixter (Striker)

I notice Jake Eyre wasn't involved for the U21's yesterday so it wouldn't surprise me if he was starting up front for this competition. Looking at the squad this year we have plenty of strength in depth in midfield so it's any 5 players from the 8 to be honest. I think it'll be a good game and I'm hoping we can progress further than last season, which was also ended by a trip to Lancashire where we lost at Rochdale,

I believe it's £4 to get in for anyone who is thinking about travelling over.

We have our very own Lou Reed? There's a fair collection of unusual names amongst the rest, some of which look like spelling mistakes :-)

He looks like a cracking prospect too.

I'll take a walk on the wild side and suggest, maybe they are all Transformers?

Any of the players u16s? I notice in the official site that there will be an open trial for u16s next month. Is this unusual (I mean it sounds that the club are struggling for any u16s that are real prospects)?

Thanks Bergen, a workmate who works at an academy (not SUFC) said Barnsley has had open trials too and SWFC have a number of triallists at the mo. It does look like that the local academies are struggling in finding good prospects for the u16s. Whether it is because the best players are more interested at staying at home with the computers rather than going out to practise their football (there is an increasing number of players in the PL that are from countries where many families cannot afford computers) or it is because the best players rather play at level one academies

A mate of mine who has good knowledge of u16s players reckons that academies have picked the wrong players when they were 11 or 12 and then they now find that they are not big or fast enough. I agree with him in a lot of ways as there were some players that I was surprised when they were selected by academies (some of them seem to have the right contacts) and overlooking the good ones

I've been told it's normal for clubs to check the height of the parents.
