5 of the 6 within 6-8 yards

I seem to remember that it was said last season that the team were at the younger end of the U18s age group, does that mean that this lot are even younger?
we've lost Slew, Long and Harry from last season, plus I think some were released

It's not very important how good a young side it. What you want is a few exceptional players. There's been some very good youth teams that've returned jack shit.

True, but its better to have a successful Youth Side to attract further talent and to also retain what we have. I remember my mates brother moved from Chesterfield to Leeds to Man U as a youngster because he (his dad) wanted him to be at the best academy.

I'd say that we've got the best academy (formerly youth team) in South Yorks and perhaps Yorkshire for producing talent in the last few years and we need to keep it that way. Sure a heavy FA cup defeat isn't a big issue, but we need to be consistently producing decent runs to bring in the talent.

I suppose in many ways its about bringing a team through rather than just a single superstar or two, because that way we grow our own on the cheap and we stand a better chance of keeping a team of good Championship players rather than one superstar that we sell within a week of him signing his first team contract

Has anyone seen the U18s this season? Who are the ones to look out for?

I watch them quite a lot and I think the side overall this year is quite poor personally. To be fair though, they're following on from a brilliant side and the expectation is high. From the team last night...

Callum MacFazdean (2nd year) is a really good player, he plays mainly on the left wing but can play in a number of positions too. I've seen him at full back, centre midfield and up front. He has a rocket of a shot on him and is a good finisher. I'd be surprised if he didn't get a chance in the first team in the next 18 months.

Jordan Hodder (1st year) is a right back who I like the look of. He's got pace to burn and despite his lack of size isn't scared to put a foot in.

George Willis (1st year) is England's keeper at U17 level and with good reason. He commands is area well, is a good shot stopper. His kicking lets him down sometimes in my opinion but he's a young keeper. That can easily be worked on.

Daniel Deakin (1st year) is a tricky winger who can play up front or just behind the strikers. I like the look of him, has decent technical ability and could do well if he's coached right.

Diego is a 15 year old, and extremely highly rated by the younger levels. I'm interested to see how he progresses in the next couple of years.

When you lose the likes of Long, Maguire, and Slew it's going to disrupt your side. Terry Kennedy, Aaron Barry, Elliot Whitehouse and Matt Harriott are all big misses too because they're good players. I thought Whitehouse might have been in with a chance of the first team this season too.

What do you think of Jahmal Smith? Someone on BM was rating him higher than Jordan Slew. What type of striker is he?

I've seen him about 4 times and he is quite similar to Slew. I'd have said pace wise he's about the same. He's a bit shorter than Slew but he looks stronger for his age so he could probably hold his own once he gets a bit older. Obviously as he's only 16 he should still be growing anyway!

He's not played the last few weeks after that horrific injury against Port Vale, it'll be a big test for him and his bravery once he recovers from that.
