FA to probe Bramall Lane fracas

The Football Association are to investigate the touchline fracas which marred Sheffield United's 2-1 win over Barnsley on Tuesday.

Both managers and their benches were forced apart by police and stewards as Barnsley boss Simon Davey complained about the use of the multi-ball system.

The incident was included in referee Grant Hegley's report and the FA will now examine video evidence.

Both Davey and Blades counterpart Kevin Blackwell played down the incident.

Davey said: "It was nothing really. I was disappointed with the multi-ball system. That was the issue."

"When Sheffield United scored their first goal all the balls disappeared. We had 24 when we were drawing and then there's one ball in the stadium when we're losing the game.

"I spoke to the referee and there were words exchanged, but it's nothing."

Blackwell, who refused to comment on the police's intervention, said: "I don't control the multi-ball system and it never went missing. I don't know what he's on about."

Not surprising to see the FA look into it.

Just hope they dont believe Daveys bullshit regarding the supposed multiball disappearance. (Ignoring the fact his players were sending the ball into row Z)

Probably just what Davey wanted. He didn't get any of our players sent off so found something else to kick up about!

It was one of Dave Beck's favourite tactics in the early 90s, as I recall. He used to send 'wet' balls on too, from memory, when Cambridge were hanging on. I didn't notice any naughtiness in particular though on Tuesday.

I did not notice anything untowards going off, and wondered what all the commotion was about but then again i reckon the numpties on the Barnsley management team could cause an argument in an empty room.

Oddly enough i remember the last derby match at Hillsborough when the Wednesday ball boys were at it, and even their keeper got in on the timewasting act but we didn't cause a big hoo-ha about it

Id love Davey to become Sheff Wednesday boss because it would make the team an even bigger laughing stock :D

As I said in a previous post, in interviews with both managers, Davy said it was about the multiball system, Blackwell said it was about time left in the game - so probably about something totally different!

Was I the only one to notice Gary Speed 'usher' Blackwell out of the way in the fracas, what a fantastic job Speed is doing, he can not only read the game as good as any player he can also read the fracas better than anyone.
