That was my second thought when reading the title of the thread, right after thread police
Yes apologies jt64, I actually wished to name it

"Thoughts on whether, although I'm sure we'd all love a decent cup run, Boro and Forest's FA Cup exploits could actually exponentially benefit us as they wrack up energy sapping extra minutes and fixtures, much like we did in our triple assault season of 2002/03 under Warnock"

but couldn't be arsed, so I just put "FA Cup"

Very odd the same person posting these two statements within a minute of each other. I'm presuming great irony is at play.
Oh no, if people love Chris Wilder so much they really should support Boro. That's 100%.

Who hates Bassett? He quite rightly seems universally popular.
in 2022 yes he popular,

but in 1995 i would doubt it as Leopards dont change their spots, although as ive said few times my in person utd knowledge starts 1998. so i wasnt alive but if Warnock & Wilder can still be hated despite the huge success they brought on a par with Bassett. then Bassett would get the same treatment

He was never hated there was simply frustration mostly directed at the shambles behind the scene.

Bassett should have walked when they sold Deano when he was on holiday or after Chelsea he was too loyal.

At Southend in 96 there was fighting amongst fans but it just sheer anger and where we’d reached.

Bassett did his best at all times and everyone even the ones wanting a change got that.

Some of the pillocks on this forum will cheer if Boro score next week this thread is indeed vomit inducing 🤢

I hope there is a bit of pre match appreciation and then wall to wall Hecky, Jack and Stewart McCall.

Nobody being a pillock trying to get a rendition of "he's one of our own" during the match please! In fact I wouldn't even go there before the game.

Bit difficult to cling onto "one of our own" when you fuck off at the first sign of adversity.

Some might find that as harsh and this is a potentially ridiculous comparison but look at Klitschko. He could saunter off to luxury but he decides to stay in a place his life could be in danger. No way near as severe for Chris, but a relegated team that he built needing to go again, those players needed him to dust himself down, look to the longer term and go again. But he cut and run and whatever happened in the end we may never fully know, but he certainly was looking to engineer his departure with some of his out there comments in press conferences. It's not hard to believe he tried to quit 3 times. Maybe he got frustrated. But what was he expecting taking a club to the top flight for the first time in over a decade? Of course there would be downs as well as ups. It just seemed having those downs and not having the answered was too much for him and I thought he had more steel and resilience than that.

What on earth are you babbling on about? As tenuous links go, that's up there.

Watching the match last night I defo don't miss the triangles at the corner off the box to then pass it back, glad wev got this out of our game

Just WOW

According to the all expert Blades fans (the vocal minority) he's a wank manager. So, that's Man U knocked out at Old Trafford and on form Spurs knocked out in this round, reyt wank manager.

Tufty, hope you take Boro all way to the FA Cup final and win it, but lose next Tuesday and again on your date with destiny at the end of May. UTB.
And lost at a desperate Barnsley

There were at least a couple of games around that time where folk were scrapping on the kop about Bassett.
The fickle nature and general fuckwittedness of fans never fails to surprise.

Luton keeper just carried off and untested lad replaced him. Number 2 out injured too. Boro away next !!

Gary Sinclair will be under strict instructions not to mention his name I’m sure. A gentle round of applause before the game will do for me. If anyone starts singing his name or ‘one of our own’ they want a good splintered broom handle bumming.

When your club needs you, you stick with it and ride out the bad times. And he had every opportunity to do that.

He's no better off at Boro. We were no better off having to employ Slav.

He should have looked at the longer term and stayed and both would have been in a better spot. He'd still be managing his club and wed probably be top two.

Do you know what happened that made him leave the club? Do you think he made the decision lightly?

Boro are very good at home but a bit meh on the road
Just won 2 of their last 9 away
Its the reason they aren't in the top 6
We have to take advantage of that.
Wilder was brilliant getting us in the prem and staying there that first seasons. But on reflection Basset still has the better overall record. 3rd to 1st divisionin successive seasons and keeping us up 4 seasons

Plus overtaking Wednesday in 90 will never be bettered after being 2 divisions below them 18 months earlier
