Penalties start at 2:44:00Kenny was injured wasn't he? I couldn't really see from the Kop but I was told later that he could only dive left and the Arsenal players were just putting their penalties to his right.

May well have been. From memory this lad/your lad was wearing a footy kit.I was indeed in the middle of the Kop, so could well have been us!
It’s hard work coercing your child to support United when you live 200 miles away and his mates support Liverpool, Man Utd etc but that goal was the one that did the trick.
I heard that, but it seems unlikely. Obviously Arsenal were going to score every pen if Kenny could only go one way. Youth goalie Danny Haystead was on the bench and he presumably dive both ways. Surely he would have been brought on if Kenny was that injured.Sounds like a question for the Guardian's Knowledge feature.

Kenny was in a bad way. Was Jags playing?I heard that, but it seems unlikely. Obviously Arsenal were going to score every pen if Kenny could only go one way. He was. So he or Haystead could have gone in the net had Kenny been totally inoperative on his right side.Kenny was in a bad way. Was Jags playing?
There are numerous comments in the video posted by mattbianco1 about Kenny's lack of mobility and him struggling with his hip. The fact that he just flopped onto his left side for every Arsenal penalty backs that up.Kenny was in a bad way. Was Jags playing?

lost in 5th round that season to chelsea at stamford bridge 2 - 0 think tony hateley got both goals silent will confirm or correct me lolFirst: 3rd Round 28th January 1967 won 1 - 0 away against Charlton at the Valley.
I get that, but if your injury is so bad that the opposition only have to slot their pens in one corner to score, you either put the youth in goal (presumably he was on the bench precisely to cover for just this situation) or if you think its too much for him put Jags in goal. There are numerous comments in the video posted by mattbianco1 about Kenny's lack of mobility and him struggling with his hip. Even though we only used 1 sub in the 120 minutes (Quinn on for Tonge) here was absolutely no way that Warnock was going to take of his undisputed #1 goalkeeper for a youth in such a pressured situation. I can only assume that Kenny also said he was fine to play.
That was the worst until Wembley 93.FA Cup, Aldershot at home, Tuesday night Jan 197? 0 - 0 draw
Rubbish game.
Got a lift of a mate who lived in Hunslet (Leeds) but unfortunately his car broke down on the way home just past Hillsborough on Penistone Road.
Started snowing at about the same time.
Waited ages for an AA man who towed us to the M1 and then abandoned us as he couldn't tow the car on the motorway with passengers in it.
Waited ages more for a recovery truck with accommodation for all the occupants of the car.
Snow continued to fall incessantly.
Eventually car was towed back to mates house in Hunslet, but that's where the breakdown service ended.
By now it was 1am and the snow was about a foot deep as I set off to walk to my flat in Farnely.
2hrs and 5 miles walking later I finally arrived home.
Can't believe I ever went to the Lane again![]()

That was Haysteads only appearance in a first team squad ( I assume reserve goalie Phil Barnes was injured). Presumably put in because of concerns about Kenny, given Warnocks penchant to not name a GK sub.
Edit: actually Barnes made his only league appearance for United in the previous Saturdays game against Rotherham because of an injury to Kenny. If Barnes then got injured as well, I suspect Kenny was pushed back in before he was fully fit.
The cup run under Clough was great - Fulham, Scabs, Charlton - 3 great games. I know what you mean re Hull. At half-time, I was stupidly dreaming of the final.First (I think): Blades 4-0 Cheltenham in Feb 2003. Just googled the bbc match report, and there's a quote from Warnock "I've not got that many years left and I love the cups."
Worst: We got done something like 3 or 4-0 at home to Brum in 2012, that was a bit grim. Contrary to others, maybe the Hull game - it's the hope that kills you.
Best: Not sure this one's been mentioned yet, but the Forest home game before the Charlton QF. 2 late Porter goals - and any win over that lot is good for me.
Went to that one as well. Chelsea has Boyle, Tambling, Bonetti, MacCreadie and others playing for them who easily outplayed us in that game.lost in 5th round that season to chelsea at stamford bridge 2 - 0 think tony hateley got both goals silent will confirm or correct me lol
It was pink pal, I've still got mine, think it cost half a crown, owd money.I don't know whether Everton game was all ticket but I remember my ticket was pink. I think the game was also televised and was shown on the Sunday.

yes it was postponed twice and twice we set off for the game think at least one was called off due to fog those night games at the lane in the 60s were magicalWent to that one as well. Chelsea has Boyle, Tambling, Bonetti, MacCreadie and others playing for them who easily outplayed us in that game.
Prior to that game, in the 4th round we were at Fulham. I went to the match at Craven Cottage, with Allan Clarke playing for them, where we drew 1-1.
The programme for the replay, which we won was postponed two or three times due to bad weather/rain (obviously the replay not the programme was postponed), must be something of a collector’s item as the dates were merely typed over until the match finally took place.
I got arrested at St Pancras, aged 15, spent night locked up, happy days.Tambling and Hateley scored
My first was that Burscough game 3-0First Burscough (probably spelt wrong) 79?
Worse well that fucking semi against them
Best possibly the Coventry home quarter final
Lovely lob1993 Glynn Hodges putting Manure in their place .....
Yes I can remember walking down Sharrow lane and Woodhead road on both occasions blades walking the other way but I had to go to the Lane to make sure the games were postponedyes it was postponed twice and twice we set off for the game think at least one was called off due to fog those night games at the lane in the 60s were magical
Punton scored twice. Due to FA Cup rules, we wore all white and Fulham all redYes I can remember walking down Sharrow lane and Woodhead road on both occasions blades walking the other way but I had to go to the Lane to make sure the games were postponed
Won the replay 3-1 if my memory serves me well
Jones and Clarke both scored in the first game ended up playing together at dirty Leeds
Good following of blades at the first game I am sure we were jumping up and down on a wooden floor which I thought may give way

I too busy watching the match to noticeLovely lob

I believe my first FA cup game was the 2-2 with Burnley in 1993, then went to the following rounds against Hartlepool and Man U too. The quarter final against Blackburn was probably the reason I fell in love with football and Sheffield United, although I’d been to plenty of games before the atmosphere was something else for a young kid. I can’t remember who we got or what happened in the semi final though…As it’s just been the FA Cup draw as the thread title says what was your first , worst & best FA Cup tie you attended watching our lot ? Mine ..
First - Arsenal ( H ) 77/78 0-5 .. my first season attending The Lane , we’d had some good results in a mini revival under Cec Coldwell at acting manager . Unfortunately hammered on the day by a good Arsenal side that went on to be runners up that year
Worst - Altrincham ( A ) 81/82 0-3.. in what was a great season for me as a Blade seeing our first bit of success even if it was the 4th Division Champions , this was a rare blot on the copy book . After Altrincham got a 2-2 draw at The Lane , we completely disappeared up our own arse at their place & were deservedly beaten 3-0 . Alty were a very good non league side in that era & took more than a few EFL scalps in that era .
Best - Well that’s a difficult one , once upon a time we were a good FA Cup side before the FA Cup became devalued by side turning out fringe players . Candidates for me off the top of my head were the beating Blackburn in FA QF in 93 , the 2 SFs vs Arsenal at Old Trafford or Hull at Wembley in 2014 , beating Arsenal 1-0 under Kendall .
But the one I’m opting for the QF replay win against Coventry that went to pens at our place , remember the game so well , Holdsworth scissor kick volley to equalise & Kellys heroics in the penalty shoot out![]()
Chelsea drew Wednesday next round won 1-0 sure that Springett said that the ball was going too slow to savelost in 5th round that season to chelsea at stamford bridge 2 - 0 think tony hateley got both goals silent will confirm or correct me lol
