I hope we can have a decent run in this years cup.

1st round is set for 3 November and I wonder which team we will draw? If we win this match we scoop £18,000 FA prize money and I guess a chance to draw "a big team" in the next round.

The lowest ranked team in the draw, away from home for me please.

It's also the chance of going somewhere we will not have been to before, and will be unlikely to visit again in the future.

Its bound to be.... BADSHOT

Love the FA Cup. Knockout footie is far more exciting than the monotony of the league. I hope we take it seriously and try and get as far as we can. The last time we were in the 3rd division we had a little cup run.

Just looking at the results from the '88-'89 season and we beat Mansfield Town at the Lane after a 1-1 draw at Field Mill and then followed that by beating Donny 3-1 at home in the second round. Neither of those games i remember but in the third round we were drawn against Colchester United. Does anybody remember that game? I was only in my early teens and it was the first time i'd ever stood in the middle of the kop. We were 3-2 down with minutes to go. We managed to get an equaliser right at the end and everyone went nuts, like we'd won the damn thing! My chest hurt for a few days after my very first experience of 'the surge', but it was worth it. Now that's the spirit of the cup i remember. We went on to beat them 2-0 at Layer Road. I seem to remember watching Deano score on the late Look L**ds bulletin.

Back then Norwich were high fliers, so when we got drawn against them in the next round i seem to remember it being a big thing. Unfortunately it was at Carrow Road, but back then, i really think we believed we could beat anybody on our day. I guess it was the Bassett way. Unfortunately, we lost 3-2. Does anybody remember their winner? An own goal by Steve 'Tommo' Thompson. It was a sublime slice and still one of the best own goals i've seen from a united player. Although it's a tight call between that and Brian Gayle's against L**ds.

The following season we got beat 1-0 by Man Utd in the quater final (thanks LS26blade!) on a beautifully sun drenched wintery day at the Lane. I could barely see anything as i was standing on the John Street getting blinded by the sun, but as far as i could see, we looked the better team that day. We got our own back a few years later.

When i look back, the cup games against Norwich and Man Utd were a good bench mark in relation to our development as a team. We ran them both close and it was a sign of bigger and better things to come. Lets hope we get to the third round and draw a big name. It would be a good test and really show how good we are.

Although, i do have the distinct feeling our performances won't be as good as they were back then, but to be honest, we had a better side. We might not have played as nicer football, but our desire to battle and win was unbelievable at times. I certainly believe we'd be sat in the automatics right now if the lads had a bit of the old Bassett fire in their bellies.

In the absence of Darren, in 88/89 we actually got to the 5th round, we beat Mansfield after a replay at the Lane, Donny game in 2nd round was away, we won 3-1, we beat Huddersfield 1-0 in the 3rd round with an awesome Agana goal, Colchester after a replay and lost to Norwich at Carrow Road in the 5th round 3-2.

In 89/90 did you miss our cup run??? We beat Bournemouth in the 3rd round 2-0 at home, Watford in a replay at Vicarage Road 3-1 after a 1 all draw at the Lane, a certain Glynn Hodges equalising in last min at Lane, we then played Barnsley twice at Oakwell after a 2 all draw at the Lane and eventually beat them with an Agana pen. All this before losing to Man u in the quarter final with a contentious goal.

You've got a better memory than me! In my defence i was walking down memory lane in the early hours due to the little 'un keeping me awake! You're totally right of course. Although, for the life of me, i still can't remember the Huddersfield game at all. The Norwich game was the 5th round. I still have the programme with a pic of Malcom Allen on the front, or at least i think it was him. Still got my ticket stub from the game too. Don't remember the Bournemouth game the following season, but i do remember the Barnsley games. It was quite a big victory against them at the time. Didn't we have a goal disallowed in the Man Utd game?

It's got to be Boston United for me - barely a 5-minute walk from my abode. They first have to beat Tadcaster Albion this afternoon, though.

[Tadcaster Albion - what a wonderful name for a football club!]

Sounds like a packet of fags - 20 Tadcaster Albion please

My first F.A Cup memory is Arsenal. They gave us a spanking 5- 0 did'nt we lose 3 matches on the trot 5-0 or 5-1 before/ after that game??. Also remember Agana scoring a screamer v uddersfield. Anyway unless we get St Patricks Ath, away get 2 handy one's get man.u away lose that un and then concentrate on promotion.

Your memory of that Colchester game is seriously off :-)

We went two down early on (one of the goals being scored by Colin Hill who we signed that summer). Mark Todd scrambled one back before half time and then Deane and Bryson put us 3-2 u with about 15 mins to go.

Unfortunately, Colchester equalised with about 10 mins to go - a straightfoward header from a free kick slipping through Benstead's fingers as I recall.

I am not sure where you get that last minute surge from - must be another game!

Also Thompson's OG in the Norwich game was not their winner. It put them 1-0 up. Deane equalised, they made it 2-1, Agana equalised again and a great goal from Dale Gordon won it for them.

, Watford in a replay at Vicarage Road 3-1 after a 1 all draw at the Lane, a certain Glynn Hodges equalising in last min at Lane, .

Oh dear - hoist by your own petard :-)

We won 2-1 at Watford and Hoges didn't equalise at the Lane. He supplied the cross for someone else (can't remember who) to score.

I like the look of FC United of Manchester.
Jumping the gun a bit! Just because they're the wednesday of non-league (massive, don't you know) Kendal have beaten them a few times recently.
Personally, I'd absolutely love to see United to play at Parkside Rd. :)

The Steve Thompson o.g. gave Norwich a 1-0 lead. Deano equalised in the first half.
In the second half Dale Gordon gave Norwich a 2-1 lead only for Tony Agana to equalise a minute later. Their winner came from a Malcolm Allen penalty.
I THANK YOU>!!

Pardon me. Malcolm Allen's penalty put them 2-1 up. Dale Gordon scored the winner.

F*cks sake! That'll teach me to reminisce in the small hours of the night. I'll keep my misty water coloured memories to myself in future! They've proven to be more muddy than misty on this occasion. Lets face it, they'll probably have a happier ending anyway! In my defence, i was only around 10 years old at the time and my drinking habit hasn't helped much since! Thanks for the info though.

Like i said, thanks for the info, my mistake. I was only 10 years of age at the time so they are very distant memories, so you'll have to forgive me. Thanks for the info though. You'll also have to excuse me for telling you to f*ck right off you smart arsed c*nt! Only joking like! UTB

i vaguely remember seeing us play some obscure team. afc burscough? something like that. i cant remember the game at all, no idea if we won but i'd be pretty shocked if we didnt.

all i remember was getting giddy looking at the match programme cos it looked so funny seeing a team name i'd never even heard of!

A 3-0 win I seem to remember

Sorry fellas, but Tadcaster Albion out, lost 2 - 0 to Boston.
