Another 1 game for his reaction after his sending off??

I've obviously missed something here, hadn't heard anything about it until I read the team news for Saturday. What did he do? Can't remember seeing him doing anything whilst walking off the pitch or having a pop at the referee.

Maybe he caused a few quids worth of improvements to the Scunny dressing rooms?

Talking to myself I know but just found this.

SHANE Lowry will miss tomorrow’s match at Portsmouth after the Football Association opted to ban him for an extra game following a review of events surrounding the defender’s red card at Scunthorpe.

Lowry had been expected to return to action against Steve Cotterill’s side but, ignoring United’s pleas for clemency, the governing body yesterday extended his suspension. The Australian’s absence presents manager Micky Adams with an unexpected headache as he attempts to steer the South Yorkshire club towards npower Championship safety.

“We’d hoped the FA would show some sympathy given the situation we’re in,” said Adams. “We wrote them a nice letter but it didn’t do any good.

“When Shane left the field he kicked the dug-out after a little bit of goading from their staff. He’s young and I suppose it’s a lesson for him.”

Hardly sounds like crime of the century.

After seeing a replay of the sending off, I personally thought we had men covering, so a straight red seemed a little harsh in the first place

Perhaps if we'd have not sent the letter, they might have forgotten who he played for. It was the headed SUFC notepaper that jogged their memories.

It's very easy to suggest that we get a raw deal from the officials and the authorities but some of the decisions which have gone against us have been questionable at best.

Furthermore, I wonder if the authorities will think up a fine beyond the normal just for us because of the large number of red cards this season.

A bit strange that the FA decides not to punish Rooney for elbowing an opposition in the head, while Lowry gets an extended ban for kicking the dugout?

That certainly won't help. And I presume we're due a hefty fine for our sins too.

The referee saw the Rooney Incident, so they can't punish him.

Presumably the ref saw the Lowry incident too, so they still kept it as a straight red and then extended it because of his childish behaviour.

If I was United then I would've doubled his ban and made him do some hard graft for a week. The prick.

Its not the FA we should be getting at here, its our own players indiscipline which makes the whole team suffer.

Yes, I am aware of that rule, but I think it's a stupid rule which should be changed. Post match bans for cheating and violent behaviour will be introduced at some point in the future and I'm sure it will improve football.

Having said that I agree it's pathetic of any player to lose his temper like that.

Not true, from the F365 mailbox earlier this week.
On the article coming from Dave Whelan's quotes, you say:

'FIFA rules prevent the FA from taking action in cases where the referee has witnessed the incident'.

I am yet to see those rules and somehow doubt they even exist for this. Why? Because they don't seem to exist in France, where a video panel routinely reviews games.

I'll take just one telling example, because I actually saw that game.

On Dec 12th, in the Bordeaux vs Rennes match, early in the game, Plasil was victim of an extremely dangerous tackle. It was right in front of the ref, who 'dealt with it' on the spot by giving a free-kick, but also issuing a yellow (instead of the expected red). The League's disciplinary committee a few weeks later issued the Rennes player Doumbia a 4 match ban.

The ban was enforced, no problem, and I didn't hear referees complain, no massive deal, no big news, as this is not the first case, nor the last one.

So the ref clearly saw the incident, and took action, although in a manner that was judged incorrect by the disciplinary panel, and the sanction was eventually applied.

You will also note that bans can be more than 3 games in this case in France. Am I seeing FIFA threatening to expel France from their competitions for undermining its authority on the game? Thought not.

So I just think the FA are spineless but still making their own rules (now perhaps 'FA's own rules prevent FA from taking action', but there should be no hiding behind FIFA.

That is why football is seen more of a joke.

The inconsistant decisions of officials, the FA and FIFA.

Whelan is right they make it up as they go along.

If Clattenburg really did see Rooney's deliberate forearm smash and thought it wasn't even worthy of a booking, then he should never referee again.
People would have much more respect for him, if he'd just admitted the elbow was much worse than he'd seen at the time and Rooney fully deserved an extra punishment.

This is what comes of taking our respected Prime Minister's advice to 'hug a hoodie'.

True, i'm not denying that, but at times its nice to see the FA supporting refs (albeit through a FIFA ruling)

Ideally, I really wish that Man U or Rooney would've just been incredibly honest and honourable and either Man U ban him themselves or Rooney to take a self imposed ban... I know that this will never happen, its not sport anymore, its business and competition and not since Di Canio's catching of the ball have we seen a single honourable act from a footballer or a team.

Well not necessarily,since we were playing Scunthorpe United.

The spineless FA hide behind article 77 of FIFA rules stating:
They cannot take retrospective action against a player if a referee has dealt with the incident, even if no action is taken, because FIFA regulation Article 77 prohibits this.

Well Im sorry thats a load of bollocks, article 77 reads:
The Disciplinary Committee is responsible for:
a) sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials' attention;
b) rectifying obvious errors in the referee's disciplinary decisions;
c) extending the duration of a match suspension incurred automatically by an expulsion (cf. art 18, par. 4);
d) pronouncing additional sanctions, such as a fine.

As we can all see section b allows for them to take retrospective action.

What a bunch of spineless twats, but then we knew that already.

When will you understand that our deservedly wretched reputation goes before us? Yet most of you shamefully glory in it.

We :heart: Hoofing.
