And, how does that tie in with your claim that we should split off the football side from the rest?

A look at the last accounts shows that the costs of running the playing side was more than the income.

Care to explain that?

Lol, that was in relation to you replying to a post about the Adams money, and you saying we needed to free up Brayford's wage money to cover losses. To which I made the point that it shouldn't be used to cover losses, it should be spent on the playing side and losses should be covered as normal.

That's where the "treat as separate" came in, despite how you wanted to twist it otherwise as usual. Then I said clubs make losses whilst still spending, which you seemed to have some trouble with, before later admitting that it was indeed possible.

Sean Thornton, have you heard the phrase 'barracks room lawyer'? Fucking hell, you're the 'message board accountant'. A real life accountant is as dull as mud, a message board one is even worse.

Barney is Barney, talks some drivel, talks some sense but you ruin every thread he posts on with your one man vendetta. Put him on ignore if you have to but at least give the rest of us a break from your petulant posting.

Triple G fights Kell Brook soon, that'll be a hell of a fight, you going at Barney over and over and over again is about as entertaining as a Westie humping your leg. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Can I just point out....it's the football side that's making the losses...not the business side.

I can't see what's dificult.

Most teams lose money. They lose money but it's generally bankrolled by something.
Most of these clubs will try to reduce their losses over time by selling a player and reducing it, or by a wealthy benefactor being prepared to give loans that they then write off, or just leave there until they can have it paid back to them.

And yes....clubs still spend money even though they are making a loss. The trick is to try and limit your losses and still spend money in a way that will improve the team and bring in more revenue.

As for KM, he's been at the club a long time. I believe we have made a loss in every season bar maybe the premier league one where football costs are concerned. Initially the plan was to have a business venture operating very well in the background that could subsidise these losses. Initially it seemed to work until the financial crash and global recession fucked it up for him. Indeed other clubs were glancing over thinking he might be onto something here.
Since then, his personal fortune has diminished considerably as he has lost money. He has over time still allowed Money to be spent, but this didn't work. He has now reached his limit of what he can afford and is prepared to lose personally.
So like it or not....KM has presided over many poor decisions that have cost the club money. He has paid for those errors with his own cash. The downside to that he is now so far in money wise it will need a nut job with billions to take it off his hands. Someone who really doesn't give a toss about the money, who's bored and just wants to play.
And sadly every club is looking for one of those, but they are like rocking horse shit in reality.

Even the pigs will one day find out their tuna man isn't one of these....They all want their money back at some point.
We are in a catch 22....can't survive without him, won't improve or repair with him. May as well give up until he either pegs it, or he pulls out his money and let's the inevitable happen. What other options are there?

Both of these posts confuse expecting us to attack the opposition with 'blowing teams away'.

I've read no one talking about blowing teams away. This is made up.
I disagree Pete , I've read many on here since the start of this season as well ,
disrespecting other teams as tin pot , little this , being beaten by ........ for fuck sake ( add your team )
I expect our team to do well , I expect our team to get promoted ( not looking good so far ) .
But I realise once you hit the pitch , that's where you have to do it , no team is going to roll over ,
although so far our team are making a fantastic effort of doing it .
No team has the right no matter who they are to simple turn up and win ,
To expect anything else is pig talk , cause they are massive don't ya know .
I hope and expect Chris to turn it around , however we have to earn and play the right way to beat teams ,
and not just show up , and expect to win .
Because we've the best ground , support , wages etc, etc in this league it don't happen like that .
I have in my mind all the teams in this league I expect we should beat , and Teams we may beat ,
I know what to expect , and being a Blade always keeps my expectations low ,
then I'm not too disappointed when it doesn't happen .

If the club are going to tell fans that promotion is achievable they need to give the manager the resources to get it done and not say one thing, do another and then shift the goalposts and sack the manager.

To be fair having the biggest budget should give any manager a decent chance of promotion.
Remember we spent 1.5 million on a right back, totally unheard of in league 1.
Didnt Done cost over 1 million?
Adkins could have easily got a job in the Champiosnhip and when we showed interest everyone said we've no chance as Adkins won't drop down to league 1 but we made him the highest paid manager in league 1.
We brought in a PL player Hammond on loan and made a £15K a week contribution towards his wage.
Coventry offered Fleck a contract to make him their highest paid player but in their words they couldn't compete when a club with the financial power of Sheff Utd come knocking.
It'd only this week we've spent £500,000 on a goal keeper.
Fans are other clubs think we're spoilt because we spend so much every season.

When the managers are given support and under achieve so much then it's no surprise they are sacked.

The day I don't "expect" promotion from league one is the day I attend Hillsborough to compliment the stadium staff on a wonderfully upto date stadium.

Grizzley,

I thought about making a separate thread about a discussion about ownership and Chairman on Talksport last week. They were basically saying "be careful what you wish" and said foreign owners are the current trend buts its fraught with dangers and don't care about the club or its fans. They said they'll put prices up, change the colours of shirts and even try to change the name.

They said that Steve Gibson is an example of what a good chairman should be. A local lad and supporter of the club he owns. Cares about the community and offers steady financing.

I felt like ringing in and saying "so your photo fit of a bad chairman is Chansiri at SW and your idea of a good chairman is McCabe at SU".

It would be interesting if we got a new Chairman and he promised big signings but said fans must help him pay for it. So it put prices up to £30 on the Kop and £35 in the South stand. Wonder what percentage of our fans would agree with that?

They came Alam of Hull City a load of stick and said he was a joke of an owner. Hull fans hate him and want him out, hence why their 15,000 gates were so poor last season.

Howeve if you look at the PL table Hul City are joint top.
They have no manager, not bought any players over the Summer and only have 14 players in the squad.
Alam refuses to communicate with the fans and there's a bad vibe surrounding their club.
Maybe that the secret of success?

Even by keeping expectations low, we must still be under them being bottom of the league?

It seems to me Sheffsteel that the fans want their cake and eat it.

They want the "good old days" of shillings and pence....footballers walking with the fans and any team can win, players on average wages....those days have gone never to return.

Football has become a monster, no longer the game of the working class. The prices are astronomical and premier league football is well beyond the reach of most people. So people are becoming detached from the game and their team, but replaced by the want it now...demand success and just support whoever wins brigade. Franchise in other words.

Sad to say, until we bite the bullet and join them....silly prices, plastic fans, worldwide franchise sales....we will languish as we are.

The point I've attempted to make and someone else has attempted to make on this thread, but it's been somewhat lost, is that the expectation of our fans isn't actually that high.

Let that sink in.

Do we expect better than 11th place in league 1? Or to be bottom of the league after the first few games? Of course we do, and so we bloody well should do too.

But do we expect 'to blow teams away'? No.
Do we expect to be runaway champions by 15 points? No.

But do we expect to put a reasonable promotion fight together? Do we expect to be able to have a proper go at teams who have won 5 games in 9 months at home? Yes.

Should we finish in the top 6, I'd say most fans would be happy with that. That's not unrealistic expectation.

I'm constantly told we have the biggest budget in the league, but we don't, ask the managers that.

Our best players are cherry picked every season, or we give them away. But our owners still talk of promotion to the premier league, never mind out of this league.

The expectation of our fans is NOT unrealistic, and it's sad that so many of our fans try to push the false notion that it is, as we regress season on season.

With all due respect, I'm not that interested in the views of a 59 year old man who thinks someone shitting on a seat at a football ground is "quality"

The players could do worse than spending a bit of time reading through this forum. They'd see that our expectations aren't actually that high at all. It's what been down here for so long has reduced us to. Most of us would settle for a top 6 finish and signs of encouragement in terms of application and identity.
Like Clough did?

Like Clough did?

Clough had far more to build on and the expectations were justifiably higher. He also spent a lot of money and handed out some ridiculous contracts to achieve what was the bare minimum - and in no style whatsoever... so you could imagine how fucked off I was when I heard him claim entertainment is a factor in his post match interview yesterday.

Like Clough did?

Hahahahaha.....absolutely bang on sir! Deserves more than a like because I recall some that now say all we really expect is a play off spot being extremely critical of Clough and calling him a failure in less than polite terms!. Particularly his signings BTW, who were the devils spawn in May.....but now apparently after Wilders brought in "exactly the sort of players we should be looking for" might not have been as bad as they thought!

What a set of fickle, ignorant fools.

And did Clough get all the targets he gave to the board? Did the board interfere in player recruitment? Did Clough provide me with some of the best days supporting my club in 10 years?

In answer to the above....NO-YES-YES

Board interference, missed player targets, and exciting attacking football in cup games!
Granted it was often different in the league, but we generally got results which is all we now want apparently.
Seems we don't just need the board to make their mind up and stick to a plan, we need the fans to as well.

The ignorant fool is he who can not tell the difference between the situations.

All Clough managed was a top 6 finish. No progress on the previous season (in reality), no encouragement in terms of playing style and future prospects, no indication that anything good was being built, it was just a total mess. The only thing he was building was a culture of accepting mediocrity.

Difference?

Wilson in charge- Expectation- Promotion (Failed twice)

Weir in charge- Expectation- reduce budget, overhaul playing squad and play better football. Project over a few seasons.

Clough in charge- expectation one...Keep us up. (Achieved)
Expectation 2- win promotion (failed)

Adkins in charge- Expectation....Get us up (failed miserably with a larger budget than Clough)

Wilder in charge- Expectation...Reduce budget and make progress from previous season.

Fans expectations for all of the above (Bar maybe Weir season)....Promotion. Some say champions, but all would say they expect promotion.
Now we have fans saying that we would take play offs as a bare minimum...well Wilson did that twice...Clough once. Didn't save their jobs did it after the fans got on their backs! We even have some pining for Wilson despite him having the biggest budget of the lot.
We have fans deriding Wilder already...Clough still the devil, Adkins (the saviour after Clough let's remember) deemed clueless. All of their signings were crap too it turns out...and it's absolutely nothing to do with the fans in the stands being vocal in their opinions. They were all crap players, who crap managers didn't notice were crap til they got here. None of their previous achievements counted and the crap managers should have known that.

Hypocrites.

Yeah yeah, the fans sacked these managers didn't they! Of course!

I'd love to see your budget figures for these managers too, Adkins bigger budget than Clough? Complete nonsense.

But still, let's blame the fans eh?

One day the penny might drop.

True that Clough had a big budget, disagree over Adkins though as he barely brought anybody in.
It's rumored to be less that 500k on Moore

Moore
The Star understands it consists of a £250,000 downpayment with a further £240,000, dependent upon certain performance-related targets, possibly owed.

I absolutely expect better than the bottom of the old third division. Any fans of a club in a city this size would expect the same.
