I don't know how prevelent this is, but my Grandson, whos has been with me to a few matches now, was telling me last Tuesday at the Ipswich game, that he was going on a school trip to BDTBL, on the Wednesday, he is seven so I was a bit sceptical that he was actually going on this trip. However he turned up at our house on Saturday morning, with the brand new home shirt on. He has the new goalie shirt, as he wants to be a goalkeeper, and when I asked him where he had got the new shirt from, he told me that he was given it on Wednesday. It turns out that his school, based in Dronfield, had arranged this trip, the cost was £5. They had a trip to BDTBL, which included a tour off the ground, look round the changing rooms and the board room, and then they met a player, in this case Jamie Ward, who told them about nutrition, and answered questions about his career. Apparently the person who took them round (whose name he could not remember), was very funny ( a few jokes about Wednesday) and told them that if they supported United now, then they would never leave that first love, no matter what happened. At the end off the tour everyone off them got a new United shirt, and a United v Wednesday programme signed by all the team.
I just think that if the club are doing it for schools then it breeds well for the future support, my Grandson has not stopped talking about it, and if you are involved with Kids in schools, perhaps you should get in touch with the club, and see what can be organised. Just think that this is a good way to ensure that the new support keeps coming, and shows that the club are thinking about the future.
