I don't know how prevelent this is, but my Grandson, whos has been with me to a few matches now, was telling me last Tuesday at the Ipswich game, that he was going on a school trip to BDTBL, on the Wednesday, he is seven so I was a bit sceptical that he was actually going on this trip. However he turned up at our house on Saturday morning, with the brand new home shirt on. He has the new goalie shirt, as he wants to be a goalkeeper, and when I asked him where he had got the new shirt from, he told me that he was given it on Wednesday. It turns out that his school, based in Dronfield, had arranged this trip, the cost was £5. They had a trip to BDTBL, which included a tour off the ground, look round the changing rooms and the board room, and then they met a player, in this case Jamie Ward, who told them about nutrition, and answered questions about his career. Apparently the person who took them round (whose name he could not remember), was very funny ( a few jokes about Wednesday) and told them that if they supported United now, then they would never leave that first love, no matter what happened. At the end off the tour everyone off them got a new United shirt, and a United v Wednesday programme signed by all the team.

I just think that if the club are doing it for schools then it breeds well for the future support, my Grandson has not stopped talking about it, and if you are involved with Kids in schools, perhaps you should get in touch with the club, and see what can be organised. Just think that this is a good way to ensure that the new support keeps coming, and shows that the club are thinking about the future.

Its the stuff behind the scenes that no one talks about. Big up to the club for this. Same with the free season tickets for U10's.

It's not perfect at BDTBL but its a shedload better than it is elsewhere.

Sounds like John Garrett - who is a top bloke, and would say that kind of thing! :-)

sounds like great work by the club. Wish I'd have experienced something like this when I was a nipper (many moons ago).

I'm suprised they managed to get any questions in with Mr Garrett in full flow. I wonder if their visit overran, I once nipped into the Legends intending to spend 30 minutes only saw half of I wanted to see when I had interupt John to tell him I had to go back to work 75 minutes later.:)

Great PR stuff, Blades.

I can just see tomorrow's back page of the Stir...

"Lee Strafford introduces school trips..."

My daughter has a trip to BDTBL lined up through her holiday club thingy at half term. My wife asked what I would have done had the trip been to the sty. I said that either I would have banned her from going, or made her wear her Blades shirt and shout "piggies" and "Wednesday are rubbish" at every possible opportunity. She doesn't need much prompting, in fact my wife often has to tell her to be quiet when she spots a piggy shirt.

When i was at school we got sent on a maths trip to hillsborough and it was the shoddiest trip I'd ever been on.
Our class turned up with our teacher having been told by wednesday there were a day of maths activities planned.
He was slightly perturbed when another class turned up looking forward to their PE exercises.
Promptly followed by a geography class and 2 media studies classes.
In the end they just lumped everyone together and made us watch videos about hillsborough.
My maths teacher was furious, wednesday were obviously desparate to get people to come to hillsborough and so claimed they were putting on a load of activities that they weren't.

Comparing this story to the one which began the thread, and i know which team I'd rather support.
