Given Evan's court case, when is it due again?

Who is lined up to replace him before the end of the season 'cos at the moment I think we'll be lucky to get over the line if he is missing.

Any reason why he couldn't play during the trial?

If it was that serious (and i'm not suggesting that it isn't) surely he'd be held in custody and not be allowed to play now let alone during his court case?

BBC reports suggest a trial in March or April (two reports suggest different months)

Hoskins is clearly ear marked to fill Cheds boots.... He should be ready by then

Not sure BT will ever be ready for another start

Hi SB. I don't think there is any reason why he shouldn't play, but wondered what the psychological effect on the guy would be.

Maybe he has a lot of self confidence, but whatever the rights and wrongs of what happened it won't be much fun having your integrity and sex life played out in the media.

There would need to be some aggravating factors to keep him in custody for an alleged rape. Whether he should play during the trial is "iffy". Could you concentrate on your job if you were staring a prison sentence in the face?

We've had this before, but the seriousness of an allegation has no direct bearing as to whether someone gets bail or not. They can generally only refuse bail if you are likely to abscond, likely to committ further offences or likely to interfere with witnesses. With someone who has no previous, is in the public eye and with a very well paid job, it would be very likely that they would get bail.

Aren't we overplaying all this? Thinking of the worst possible scenario?

Footballers get charged all the time (although if they stayed off bloody Twitter and WasteBook it might help...)

Hopefully the judge/jury will be fully aware of what a 'night on the town' involves nowadays. Racism seems to get more censure nowadays.

Do we imagine the piggies are crapping it about the imminent demise of The Drinking Machine?

Hopefully justice will work and get to the right verdict whatever that may be.

can't see him being in the right state of mind to play and even if he was he won't be training so all in all unlikely.

I think Bowyer and Woodgate played on for Leeds during a very serious assault case ten or so years ago.

He'll be found not guilty.

To the poster who said, would you carry on doing your job if your staring a prison sentence in the face, yes. You would if your not guilty.

Unless you are a sociopath, in which case you would probably carry on even if you had done it...

...there are only 2 people on he planet who know if Ched is guilty, and obviously they disagree...

Guilty or not guilty, the trial process is bound to be at the veryf front of Ched's mind. His concentration and efforts must be focused on his trial one hundred percent. A wrong reply in the scary witness box could seal his fate, one way or the other, rightly or wrongly. Squeaky bum time for the lad.

I don't know how long the trial is listed for, but he will obviously have to be there when it takes place, which will mean he won't be able to train (unless he does it after court hours), which could effect his ability to play.

Also, if I were his lawyer, I would be wanting him concentrating 100% on the trial - not worrying about the upcoming game v Stevanage.

Do we know what date the trial is listed for?

He is also accused of rape and I doubt his defence is that he just stood there and watched....

If he had just stood there and watched, could he still be charged with it under the Group responsibility thingy...

No he couldn't. You're thinking of joint enterprise. If you just watch a crime being committed and take no action to encourage it you are not guilty. There has to be some overt participation in the crime for JE to grab you. Mere presence at the scene of a crime (even if you make no attempt to stop it or report it) does not make you guilty.

All I have heard is April.

Wouldn't it be possible for United to have the case adjourned until the season is over like Chelsea did with John Terry?

"Mr Carter-Stephenson handed District Judge Howard Riddle a letter from Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay, who appealed for the trial to be delayed until after his players' domestic and international footballing commitments are over for the season. Judge Riddle had hoped the case could be heard in March but accepted that other Chelsea players would not be able to appear as witnesses until the end of the football season. Setting the new date, the magistrate took into account Chelsea's fixtures, Euro 2012, pre-season tours and the Olympics. The final of Euro 2012 takes place on July 1. The trial is expected to last five days."

Unlikely. Terry's case was listed on the basis of witness availability, not Terry's convenience.

Another question then...Why is it that no official date for the trial seems to have been set yet? Is this normal?
If it's the 1st April, Evans could miss SEVEN league matches. If it's the 30th April, he might only miss ONE.
Therefore the specific date is crucial to our promotion hopes but all I can find on Google is "some time in April".
